Revenge of the Sith Takes Hollywood Movie Of The Year Award

I don’t mind telling you that I really enjoyed Star Wars Episode IV: Revenge of the Sith. Yes, there is no denying that it had it’s weaknesses, but overall it was a damn fun and entertaining film. Well… I guess I’m not the only one who thought so as Revenge of the Sith has just been names as Hollywood Film of the Year by the Hollywood Film Festival. Here’s what their official press release has to say:

The Hollywood Film Festival has announced that GEORGE LUCAS’ “STAR WARS: EPISODE III – REVENGE OF THE SITH” is the winner of this year’s “Hollywood Movie of the Year Awards®.” The winner is chosen by the public voting online for their favorite movies at the Yahoo Movies (movies.yahoo.com) and “Entertainment Tonight” (ETonline.com) websites.

Apparently the other films up for the award were Batman Begins, Cinderella Man, The Constant Gardener, Crash, Sin City and Hustle and Flow. Revenge of the Sith took over 35% of the vote.

Am I surprised? Yes. Personally I think hands down and easily the best film of the year so far has been Cinderella Man, but meh… it’s nice to see Star Wars get some Kudos. Cheers George!

  1. I don’t know why anyone should complain about the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. They were stories that needed to be told and if you look back closely at the two movies you would realize that both have been leading up to revenge of the sith with each movie getting a little darker and getting closer to the time of the empire in the original trilogy. As for Revenge of the Sith. I do requard it as this years best movie without a doubt.

In terms of pure entertainment and eye cany, you wont get any better than sith. Shoot me down if you want to!

  2. Revenge of the Sith did deserve to win if we’re talking popularity. The Academy is something different altogether, and my guess is that it may win a couple of awards (mostly technical).

Remember, what Lucas had to do was very difficult – essentially tell a story where everyone knows what will happen, and have no real ending (since it is the middle episode of all six). Lucas really achieved something admirable, spanning almost three decades of work – and the kind of filmmaking he does is not an easy, straight-forward process. Watch the dozens of featurettes about it when the DVD hits in a few weeks and maybe you’ll see it in a new light (or maybe not).

  3. Revenge of the Sith the best movie of the year. Is this writer on crack? Sure it was better than the others but it still was a laugh out loud fest of mediocrity. The characters were wooden and the dialogue was a joke fest.

Serenity was loads better than this crap but people stayed away.

I have lost faith in humanity.

Look at all the other choices on the list and ROTS got it? Did George Lucas stuff the ballot box?

    Ughhhh!

  4. If Sith is the film of the year, then let us all gather together at our local multiplexes in sackclothes and ashes and wail about the sad, sad state of movies today.

  5. This award is chosen by a public vote. Lets not confuse popularity with quality. Otherwise the Spice Girls must have been one of the greatest bands to ever walk the face of the earth!

  6. It is the film of the year, and I am happy it achieves recognizement as such.

Simone, you must be happy ;) Shall we make a toast in all bashers√Ǭ¥ honor? Hehehe…

  7. LOL @ T-Jax. You know how to get through to me eh?

I stand by my previous statements about Star Wars, be it the prequels and the original I love them all. I have also said I am very rarely passionate about things but I am with Star Wars, again, both prequels and the originals, and with that I am blind and deaf as well. I respect other’s people intense dislike of the prequels, and will not attempt to prove my point. To each his own.

    Cheers! ;-)

No, you’re not alone. The movie was terrible. But it was so popular because was not as bad as the first 2 prequels, because it was more related to the original trilogy that the other 2 and because there are a lot of people who go absolutely ga-ga for anything Star Wars regardless of its quality (hi Simone!), or are easily entertained, or go seeing Sci-Fi movies expecting only to see nice fireworks and be entertained without caring for plot, dialogue etc, or just simply have a bad taste in movies.

BTW, if you also disliked the prequels and want to have fun, head over to randomsoftware.com/animationstation/ and read their parodies. They’re hilarious and cover almost everything that went wrong in the prequels.

  9. I hated star wars … always have. until i seen the trailer for revenge of the sith. my mates made me go out and rent all the old ones and watch them first then watch some shit called phantom menace and then something i fell asleep through which was called attack of the clones … bout you know what, after seeing Sith (which is a terrible bloody name for a flick by the way) … IT JUST SEEMED TO MAKE IT ALL BETTER!! I dug the old flicks too by the way. Love you Harrison, stop boofing Calista tho! Han wouldn’t have done it!

  10. If they’re talking about BLATANTLY Hollywood movies, King Kong will fuck Star Wars up the ass and not even give the god damn common courtesy of a reach-around.

  11. Am I the only one who thinks the movie was dry, repetitive, and all around sorry? The plot was terrible and the acting was worse. The visual effects were crazy good, but that was about it. Maybe the fact that I read the book before seeing the movie is what ruined it for me, but I still think it was terrible.
