We have some news regarding the progress of Beverly Hills Cop 4, and it looks like Eddy isn’t happy with the script. We get the following scoop thanks to our friends over at cinematical:
Latino Review managed to snag a draft of Beverly Hills Cop 4 (one they claim “the studio loves, but Eddie Murphy is not too keen on”), and they’ve slapped a C+ grade on it. Based on their description (which includes spoilers, so watch out), the flick looks to be a combination of the original Beverly Hills Cop and Hitch, with Axel Foley (Murphy) trying to figure out who killed one of his friends, all while helping his new, fat partner score with some girl he has a crush on. LR says it’s a “pretty standard police corruption story”, and it feels “like the writers took an Arnold Schwarzenegger script they had lying around and changed the details to make it a Beverly Hills Cop movie. There’s no fun in it.”
Eddie Murphy said that he wanted Bevery Hills Cop to be his last hurrah in the film world. He claims that he plans to return to the stage as a stand up comedian and will fire up the mic anew. I hope his words were true, and I’m guessing that they may be based on his desire to make sure that BHC4 is a quality film.
Doing shit films over the years has been Murphy’s calling card so no matter how this ends up in theaters; its just nice to hear that he gives a shit about this one. I’m pleased that he’s starting to care – that’s a good sign in my books.
Someone asked me about this project yesterday on the 2PM live show and I’m glad an update of sorts has filtered down the pipe. We will wait and see for more news regarding this project and with luck we will have another Latino Review script review shortly.
That the script of Beverly Hills Cop IV is changed, and I agree with you, because I think the movie shouldn’t have as a plot that Billy fall over the 20th floor of the police of Los Angeles’s building, and Axel Foley shouldn’t make a couple with the new policeman Goodwin. In my point of view with this plot the movie risk poor takings, like the 3rd movie. In my opinion in the movie should be the original cast of the 1st and 2nd movies, with Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox and Paul Reiser. I believe the script should be that Billy, that take part in special unit DDOJSIOC (Deputy Director of Joint Special Inter Operational Command), find a criminal organisation implicated in drug traffic, and with them the police department of Los Angeles co-operate. But this organisation put a bomb in Billy’s car, it explode, but Billy has a miraculous escape, and then receive death threat, and for this reason he ask an help to Axel, to his old friend, John Taggart, that is retired in Arizona, and to the chief of police of Beverly Hills, Andrew Bogomil. Finally they become a good team, like the 1st and 2nd movies. And I would that at the start of the movie, Axel in Detroit make a couple with Jeffrey Friedman, his friend in the first two movies. So Axel help Billy in his investigation, they find that the chief of Los Angeles’s police is implicated in the drug traffic. The movie should be an action-comedy, like the 2nd movie, where there are quite a lot of shooting, and the end should be that Axel, Billy, Taggart and Bogomil go to the police department of L.A. and start a shoot-out. The movie should be like that, I don’t want that became horrible like the 3rd one. I would want that it could be funny, that he wear the Detroit Lion’s jacket, that there is the original music of the movie and that Axel is the chief of Detroit police.
Eddie Murphy’s faliure has come about as he does not do films that are catered to just an adult audience, (norbit, meet dave, nutty professor etc, etc). When I was a kid Murphy movies was my favs,(BHC 1 and 2, A48H, and of course his stand up comdies. These aresomething I want to be buried with so the next generation of people can see how good screen comedy is done, to this day i still watch those movies when I can.
What I’m saying is… Murphy is at his best when he is F-ing and being un-PC on the screen.

At first i’m saying to myself “what’s so bad about it? It can’t be worse than part 3” then I read and said to myself “OHHHHHHHH”
If he’s gonna bring back Axel Foley, it’s seriously better be a great script. I don’t think after all these years of bad movies, I can be ok with the idea of running down a beloved character into the ground now too.

But what is script quality to Eddie Murphy? The guy’s agreed to be in a lot of crap in the past and we didn’t hear him complain about anything until now.
If it is the real deal, I hope this movie turns out all right. I’d hate to see Eddie Murphy retire back to the stage without at least one more good movie.

I really hope this movie doesn’t happen now. I am sick of Hollywood constantly putting it in the bag that the “fat Partner” is only there for comedy relief. I also am sick of the Hollywood stereotype that all fat men can’t find dates for themselves.
I am a fat man and I have a beautiful and wonderful wife and a great self esteem. I have lots of overweight friends that don’t have self esteem problems or problems getting dates either. This is a tired gag of the lowest order and I just don’t want to see it anymore.
I think he wanted to play multiple characters and wear a fat suit.
