David Cronenberg and Denzel Washington are set to bring us a film adaptation of The Matarese Circle; a novel penned by Robert Ludlum. We get the following scoop from our friends at comingsoon:
Set against the backdrop of the Cold War, the book revolves around two men — one American, one Soviet — who must cooperate in order to foil a sinister plot to topple the world’s governments.
In recent history there seems to have been a rise in “Cold War” films in production. Every 2-4 weeks for the past couple of months one Cold War film or another has been announced. I don’t know if this is coincidence, or just the film industry capitalizing on some recent disagreements Russia has had with the USA. Either way, it’s starting to look like the 1980′s all over again.
I enjoyed Eastern Promises very much and look forward to what Cronenberg has in store for us next. It will also be cool to see him work with Denzel. Now we wait and see who Denzel’s partner will be in the film. I am hoping for Dolph Lundgren.
No production date has been set – but we will keep you posted.
One of the most entertaining USA/Russia team up films of all time is Red Heat. Cocaine in a wooden leg!

is that a denzel mugshot?
We need the caption “What is Denzel thinking?”
Oh, and as for Washington’s co-star in this, for some reason I’m thinking Ralph Fiennes, reuniting with his Spider director.
Or Mads Mikkelsen of ‘Casino Royale’ fame.
the book is excellent, so i hope the movie is good
Cronenberg + Ludlum = I’ll be there.
People act like the Cold War is over. Not exactly. I would argue that the breakup of the Soviet Union just created many splinter groups. Many of these groups are democratic (or want to be), but because of corruption can’t get to a free society. In addition, their geographic remoteness to the “Western” nations allows this corrupton to fester.
Sorry didn’t mean to get political.
Lastly, more of Viggo kickin ass in the buff, please!
