The Crazies Remake

George RomeroThe George Romero film The Crazies is suiting up for a remake, and Romero has been brought on board to produce. We get the following scoop from our friends at the movieweb:

Overture Films has signed on to produce The Crazies, a remake of George Romero’s 1973 horror. According to Variety, Breck Eisner will direct from a script by Ray Wright and Scott Kosar. Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris will produce; Romero will serve as executive producer.

The Crazies revolves around people in a small Kansas town who are beset by a virus that causes insanity and death after a mysterious toxin contaminates the local water supply. Production is set to begin early next year.

I am not big on remakes, but if they’re going to rehash this film, I think it’s a wise move to bring Romero on board. With luck, everything fans of the original film enjoyed will be present post resurrection.

I haven’ t seen the original but will consult the circle of wisdom; the hall of international friends. For those of you that have seen the film – what are your thoughts? Would you like to see a remake, is the film suited for a remake and what are your feelings on the original?

  1. Romero is not a good film maker. JMO… He hasn’t done anything good since Dawn of The Dead and until then nothing since Night of the Living Dead. The Crazies is pretty weak. Don’t waste the money on it.

Come up with an original idea. Then use the money to release that instead.

  2. Also, Doug, you should check out Knightriders if you haven´t seen it. It´s Romero´s film about a motorcycle gang who imitate King Arthur´s Court, complete with jousting.

Crazies is one of GARs best non-zombie movie, and I agree with Dante that it´s sort of a dry run for Dawn of the Dead. It´s certainly not a perfect movie, but its satire and generally nasty atmosphere will probably be lost in a remake. As will the incest scene. And the stampeding sheep. Romero producing gives me a little bit of hope though.

  3. I really liked The Crazies, it’s a good connection between the Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, the plot is simple but has some very good moments, and the ending is just simply awesome.
If you still know how to read in hungarian, you can find a review about The Crazies on my blog :)

  4. Doug, John:

Did you notice the number of comments decline in the blog?

ITS BECAUSE IS A PAIN to leave a comment. (sorry for the caps :P )

Ok, now seriously, a humble advice:

    1. Make the link bigger (now is just the number of comments, maybe you can include the little silhouette also)

    2. You need a link to the comments AFTER the post. You are in the home page, reading, scrolling down, you read a long article, you want to comment but… where is th link? ah! you need to scroll up again! Bad.

    Love you guys :-)
