Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Title Explained?

Plenty of speculation about the title to Transformers 2:The Revenge of the Fallen and its meaning. Well it appears a pretty solid theory has surfaced about the meaning.

IGN.com says:

The site points out this entry on the Fallen, which reminds us that “the robot who would become the Fallen betrayed his creator by siding with Primus’s dark twin, the malevolent planet-eater, Unicron. In the final battle between Primus and Unicron, the Fallen fell victim to the same fate as his master, sucked through a black hole into another dimension. However, while Unicron emerged into another universe, the Fallen was not so fortunate, finding himself trapped in the ‘underspace’ between dimensions.”

I like that they are paying tribute to this little known ancient character from the G1 universe which clearly inspired the current movie incarnations.

According to the Transformers Wiki The Fallen was a servant of Unicron, which (if acurate) implies that they will talk about Unicron in the movie Universe. Involving some Unicron mythos might involve the theorized return of Megatron as Galvatron, an unwilling servant of Unicron – as illustrated in the Animated Movie.

So being that this is a movie adaptation they don’t strictly have to stay with the Fallen mythos. Perhaps Megatron returns as an amalgamation of this Fallen? The Fallen was shunted to some sub-parallel Universe, and perhaps through Megatron’s rebirth he is possessed by this ancient spark?

Maybe Megatron is going to be one of the original 12? Perhaps he IS the Fallen and in his rebirth becomes the dark loyal servant of Unicron.

And as suggested in previous comments, Unicron will then appear in the movie as a storm cloud.

So what do you think about digging up this ancient history of the Transformers Universe as the basis of the sequel’s plot?

Is Megatron the Fallen? Or are we about to meet a new threat?

  1. i think its very simple- the fallen (decepticons) will have their revenge from when the autobots kicked their ass even though they outnumbered them

not to mention decepticons dwarf autobots and that they were like- fucking tanks and jet planes while autobots were pontiacs and chevys.

the decepticons that ran away like bitches (barricade and starscream) are the fallen and maybe megatron and theyll come back with more decepticons (megatron will come back as galvatron like some people sayd already)

i hope that when they say fallen they also mean bonecrusher and when they say revenge they mean that hell come back because he needs to come back if they want devastator to have a left arm

  2. Sumo, relax. Like I already mentioned, it was a joke. Its very unlikely that Unicron will be in this movie, and if he is it will be in name alone.

Marco. Do people even say “chillax” anymore? I think considering the topic at hand we are already pretty laid back.

  3. great, not another giant cloud. please. they could do all the cg they want or *crappy casting, as long as there is no freaking giant piece of space fart in the movie like in the Fantastic Four XP

  4. Whatever happens, they most definitely need to bring back Megatron. The guy just didn’t get enough play-time in the first one. I mean, he was only in action throughout the third act, but he was still a huge, damn nightmarish threat of a pissed-off robot. He killed Jazz in probably the most vicious way a robot could kill another robot, then slapped Prime’s ass around ’till The Beef decided to cram the Allspark into his chest. But imagine if that same nightmarishly pissed-off Hasbro Toy was a threat right from the get-go of the sequel? Or even better… if he was answering to a higher power (Unicron). It might mean little exposition, fallowed by IMMEDIATE TRANSFORMER FIGHTS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Sounds to me like two solid hours of crazy robot warfare that’d be guaranteed to rake in my money at least twice.

  5. According to Devin at chud the title does refer to this The Fallen character. I’ve been pretty outspoken around these parts about my dislike for the first terrible film but I have to admit, if the rumors are true this would go a long way to addressing my criticisms of the film.

I’m still not on board with the sequel but at least this is a step in a new more promising direction.

  6. Who cares who’s the fallen? It will be another dumb movie with robots punching each other while trying to follow a lame plot with a few lines thrown in for cheap laughs.

  7. The Fallen came from the Dreamwave comic. I’m a little surprised that they’re using this character for the movie because he a relatively new and a large chunk of the fan base doesn’t even know anything about him. As long as they have Unicron (NOT as a stormcloud… lol), I’m cool with that.

  8. sounds like complete speculation. The Fallen the title refers to is either:
    1.Megatron
2.a resurrected Jazz going to the ‘dark side’
3.Shockwave (i have no basis for this one. it’d fun though. especially if we got the badass version from the comics who crashlanded on Earth before the Ark & fought the badass versions of the Dinobots instead of the bootlicking lackey from the toons).

    1. I’m going to have to agree with jugs a lot. Personally I think that “the fallen” might refer to all of the characters that fell in the first movie, maybe being reanimated by random fragments of the allspark. Regardless, the chance of them using such an obscure character like ” the fallen” is pretty slim. Why would they use a character with such a minute role in the transformers universe?

    2. Because you didnt write the movie.

Where they pull their lore from for the basis of the movie has nothing to do with popularity. I would imagine that a lesser known (yet still interesting) story that involves a near god like transformer of lore would make a better story than something we already know how it plays out.

Besides, it has long since been confirmed that this is the story they are using. This article was from last summer.

  9. Tom. Just so we are clear, the storm cloud reference was a joke.

I think with all the negative reaction to the iconic character from the Fantastic Four movie, they wouldn’t dare screw with Unicron like that.

That being said, I don’t think we will see Unicron anyways. He will probably just be spoken of in reverence.

  10. Megatron is NOT The Fallen.

    The Fallen is worse.

Megatron, for all his ill deeds, is still a Transformer from Cybertron. When the chips were down, he defended his planet, even if he went about it the wrong way.

The Fallen is a seperate character, only ever used in “The Dark Ages” story, and is loyal to Unicron, who’s only goal is the destruction of Cyberton. Megatron wants to rule the world, not destroy it.
