Rambo 5 Set In Arizona But Filming In Bulgaria

It’s been well established around here that I HATED the idea of Stallone doing another Rocky or Rambo film a little over a year ago. However, I ended up just LOVING Rocky 6, and I even ended up liking Rambo 4. Good. All done now right? Ummm… well… no.

According to our friends over at IESB, as rumored earlier, Rambo 5 is moving full steam ahead. The film will take place back in the USA (Arizona to be specific) but will film in Bulgaria. Huh????

WIth the ending of the last film as a prelude, it was thought that Rambo V would be set back home in Arizona with the character returning to America for the first time since Brian Dennehy screwed it all up with that firehose of his. But last week, it was announced that the film would be shooting in Bulgaria which threw everyone off track, was Rambo heading back out to a foreign land to kick some more ass? Clint over at Moviehole.net says no. His scooper says yes the production is shooting in Bulgaria but only for financial reasons. The Bulgarian landscape will double for Arizona with a Sheriff Georgi instead of Sheriff Joe…I am kidding…but yes, Bulgaria will double for Anytown, Arizona.

I don’t know… at what point do you just call it a day and say enough is enough? Rambo 4 ended up being better than I thought it would, but isn’t this pushing it? Wasn’t Rambo 4 supposed to be John J Rambo’s swan song? The film didn’t even make THAT much money… so what’s the motivation here?

I don’t mind the idea of them filming it in Bulgaria. Where ever works if it helps production… but I just don’t see this turning out well for anyone. Then again… I said that about Rocky 6 and Rambo 4 too… so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  1. Gordon Shumway says:

This does has less chance than part 4. Afterall, the thing that the average person wants from Rambo is now mass murder, how can he provide that plausibly in Arizona? It is a bold choice to try and move into a new genre as he has said this film would.

  2. Phil Gee says:

There’s really going to be a Ramo V? If i remember correctly, the other fil he made with V in the title needed another sequel to make up for it’s crappiness.

Stallone’s gonna lose some credibility with me if he’s really going through with this after all he said before.

  3. Crackerjack says:

This is terrible news, not that I don’t want them to make it but if they filmed it in AZ I could go back home and work as a local. I would love to work on a Rambo film. Stupid Bulagaria.

  4. I also don’t get it, all though I am from Bulgaria. It’s just that some movie producers can’t seem to see when enough is enough.

    All the best
