Jared Padalecki The New Jason?
This is an interesting bit of casting news. It appears that Jared Padalecki, star of the wildly underrated TV show “Supernatural” is being looked at strongly to be the new Jason Vorhees in the upcoming Friday the 13th remake. The folks over at Eclipse Magazine give us the following:
It was announced yesterday, March 21st that Platinum Dunes in association with New Line Cinema and Paramount Pictures is in final negotiations with the Supernatural star to take on the lead role in their ‘re-imagination’ of the 1980 horror/slasher flick about teenaged camp counselors at a camp called Crystal Lake who begin to meet untimely and gruesome fates at the hands of a mysterious killer.
Jared Padalecki, who is well known to TV viewers as the hunky Dean Forester on Gilmore Girls and the intrepid ‘hunter’ Sam Winchester in Supernatural, is no stranger to being involved in successful remakes of older films, having had roles in the remakes of ‘House of Wax’ and ‘Flight of the Phoenix’. While the Friday the 13th movie he is set to begin production on this spring is listed as a remake, the movie will have a different focus on the storyline than the original movie.
Ok, I like Padalecki very much and would be happy to see him in just about any movie… but… JASON?!?! Ummm… correct me if I’m wrong here, but shouldn’t the big guy be, you know… BIGGER? Not to mention, in this remake shouldn’t he be wearing the mask all the time (He doesn’t have it in the original… but they’ve said the Jason with the Mask is what we’re getting with this new incarnation). Why do they need a named actor at all? Please don’t tell me they’re going to do with this film what Zomibe did when he butchered Halloween are they?!?!
As much as I like Padalecki, I’ve got a bad feeling about this.

Yeah, sounds like Jared will be taking on the role of the kid who manages to miraculously vanquish Jason by the end of the film, not Jason himself.

Where do you get that he is playing Jason?
Jason was never “the lead” in the friday the 13th movies.
The “lead” in those movies was always the main good guy (or gal) character.
I believe, like Joey and Patrick before me, that Padalecki will be playing that character… not Jason.

He’s NOT playing Jason. By lead role, they mean the main character…the main ‘good guy’ so to speak. This is the only site on the entire net that I know of, who’s reporting him as playing Jason.

What ^^^ said. It doesn’t mean he’s Jason.
But I have a machete of my own to throw down.
1) People have to keep in mind *before* Kane Hodder, “Jason” was not a giant hulk.
2) Whoever plays Jason, the actor will not speak. A groan or grunt maybe, but generally mute.
3) The actor who plays Jason will wear a potato sack over his head for the first act; a goalie mask by the third.

I just read that link, and the last paragraph about the other re-imaginings Platinum Dunes has in the works, The Birds, Near Dark and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Now I knew about them but geez Louise it’s still annoying.

I am a HUGE FRIDAY THE 13th Fan. To see a remake of the movies with some special effects would be awesome.
I’m not much of a Rob Zombie fan, but thought he did a fantastic job with the new Halloween movie. He went into more detail of how Michael became the murderer that he is. I think that is what they need to do with Jason. Start the movie out with Jason being at camp, getting picked on and drowning rather than just doing flash backs.

I think Jared as the new Jason is a good idea! He’s not that much of a known actor; he’s not George Clooney, Sean Connery, or Johnny Depp. He’s a becoming known-actor, and being on SUPERNATURAL (which I LOBE) gives him a feel for horror. And I’ve also heard he’s 6′4″. Is that big enough for ya? And he can EASILY bulk up; have you SEEN him without a shirt? -drools- But in short, I say “Go Jared!”
