Ryan Reynolds To Play Deadpool?

DeadpoolIt looks like Ryan Reynolds may be slipping into a pair of tights for the upcoming Wolverine film; the word on the street is that he may be cast as Deadpool. We get this news from our friends at AICN via IESB:

Aint it Cool News is reporting a nifty little scoop — Ryan Reynolds may be featured in a Wolverine cameo as everybody’s favorite merc-with-a-mouth. We’ve yet to get official word from anyone on this but — if it’s true — it sounds like a lot of fun. Deadpool is a fan-favorite and the casting of Ryan Reynolds may very point to a spinoff film in the near future.

I enjoy Ryan Reynolds and usually do not mind when he is attached to a project. I am not familiar with the Deadpool character and must ask the international friends for help. Do you guys think Ryan Reynolds would make a good Deadpool? Please share your thoughts in the comments section.

IESB goes on to describe Deadpool as an insane, wise cracking assassin. Ryan Reynolds excels at the wisecracks, and if this is what is needed, I can certainly see why he may have been tapped for this. It would be cool to see him play a character where you are always covered in a ninja-esque outfit. Deadpool always reminded me of Snake Eyes from G.I. Joe when I saw his picture. I am not sure how much screen time will be given to the character, we may see him for an instant, or he may play an extended role in the film. Either way, we will continue to follow this news and keep you up to speed on the updates!

i read some xmen ones and in ultimate spiderman and when i played the game he sounded like alfred from batman

deadpols canadian?? no shit wow i dodnt know that and- ray reynolds is canadien?? well then thats cool but i still think that they shouldnt show his face UNLESS it gets accidently taken off in a fight (that always happens to the guys that really take care of their maks like spiderman)
    k thanx

  3. Jamie, what deadpool comic didyou read? did you read his original ongoing series, where he went to the house where he grew up…not in australia. Also is he was australian he would have an accent in x men legends and ultimate alliance.

I was mistaken on him being from america however he is from canada. http://www.marvel.com/universe/Deadpool Theres your proof if you really need it. Not australian, and who better to play him than a fellow canadian.

  4. @ josh
    nooo???
hes got a thick ass accent
no one knows about deadpools past,no one knows were hes from- its unknown but hes got an australian accent
its a waste of money to get such a famous actor for a guy whos face was fucked up because he had terminal cancer
you know- no lips? no eyelids? brain showing? and a plastic transparent permanent mask? hes UNRECOGNIZABLE

  5. What are some of you talking about????? Deadpool is not english or australian, he might say “mate” once in awhile, but he also says chimichanga and spatula and he isnt mexican. He is AMERICAN, born and raised, look it up. Also, who cares if they show his face as long as its disfigured. He is the perfect casting for Deadpool.

  6. NONONONONONONONONONO

i do respect and have appreciation for Mr. Ryan Reynolds but i DO NOT SEE HIM AS DEADPOOL. i did get excited when i heard he might play The Flash; i think that would be a great fit for Ryan Reynolds.

in my opinion, Deadpool would have to played by either an unknown, like Hugh Jackman was before he stepped up to make his portrayal of Wolverine a tent-pole for the X-MEN film franchise….OR maybe somebody like MICHAEL WINCOTT or maybe LUKE GOSS…

but in my opinion, Ryan Reynolds is a bad pick for somebody like Deadpool…THE FLASH, oh hell fucking yes, but somebody intimidating, serious and ominous and yet wise-cracking?

come on, blade3??? waiting??? that awful national lampoon movie??? definitely, maybe??? smoking aces???

he can obviously do action and he can obviously do sarcastic-toned comedy…and it DOES work in theory but i think that in practice, it won’t work. again: it’s not that he can’t be a superhero, i just think he’d be a MUCH MUCH better fit for The Flash…

  7. ryan reynolds will make as good a deadpool as topher grace makes a good venom

unless of course they dont show his face and make him speak like steve erwin- those are the only 2 thi9ngs that im having trouble with. if they DO make those arrangements- then hes the PERFECT deadpool

if they make him talk like he did in blade 3 and show his face all the time itll just kil the character to me

i dont give a FUCK if people dont know who he is (this goes to you soccer moms) adjust him to the big screen, make him different- i dotn care, but dont change his “the mask is private” thing
thas like his motto- dont EVER touch the mask- if they show rays face itll kill deadpool to me

  8. Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is one of those dream casting choices that Hollywood rarely makes. He is a very good fit.

    For Doug,

Deadpool is very like a twisted version of Spiderman (to the point where he had an old blind lady he kept hostage in his lair to clean and to talk to, who looked suspiciously like Spidey’s Aunt May).

He has a healing factor like Wolverine and Sabertooth, but no claws. He generally uses katanas, sub-machine guns, and grenades, but his greatest weapon is his mouth. Deadpool literally NEVER shuts-up, to the point where his opponents have surrendered to the authorities just to get away from his talking.

  9. If they do have Deadpool in it, I hope they at least have one scene where he talks to the audience :P It just wouldn’t be Deadpool without a “breaking the fourth wall” moment haha Or he could be fighting Wolverine and then in the middle of the fight he could say something like “Oh my god! This is just like in issue X, page X, panel X” referencing a comic where he and Wolverine have fought before, that would be kickass hahaha

  10. Deadpool makes a good bad guy for Wolverine as he has the healing factor but plays for wisecracks what Wolvie takes seriously. Ryan Renolds would play him perfectly just by playing the same character from Blade 3 (typecast?).

It’s almost as good a fight as Snake Eyes vs. Storm Shadow…

  11. Oh my god. Today has had some really good headlines, and this one gets me the most excited.
At first I didnt like the idea of Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool but now I think differently. Once Reynolds packs on the buffness and practices his crazy voice then I think he’ll be ready. But amn I cant wait to see Deadpool on screen….to see him stomp out Wolverine..oh sorry I went into fanboy mode for a moment. But really to see Deadpool and Wolverine fight would be a great thing!

  12. @frank
hm- i dont know dude lol english australian- somewere in the ballpark
even in the comic books he says “mate” and stuff
and in the video games i heard him in he sounds very australian

  13. Australian accent? I’ve never heard that about his character. Check out the voice they gave him for the video game Marvel Ultimate Alliance, apparently there was much deliberation done as to what he should sound like before they decided on that.

  14. ok. doesnt deadpool have an australian accent and a disfiguered face?
i think this is a GREAT pick cuz i love ryan reynolds and i think he will make a great deadpool
im just saying are they goin gto make him like- american and with a face? or are they going to make him do an accent and not show his face throughout the whole movie?
JUST A QUESTION i still think hes a great pick

  15. I liked Blade Trinity, but not as much as I loved the previous two. One of the things I disliked most about the third Blade WAS Ryan Renyolds smack talking Hannibal King.
I thought he was great in Smokin Aces, brilliant in the Amityville Horror remake. I sort of liked Just Friends.

But do I think he’ll play another Marvel character who does a lot of smart ass, coffin humor in between kills? I’m not holding my breath. One thing I DO know. Whoever plays Deadpool, will at least lose the mask, if nothing else. The red-black outfit might also have a slightly different look. Why do I suspect this?

Let me ask another question. Will Logan “prefer yellow spandex”?

  16. he could be really good becuase deadpool does have a funny side but as said by most people, he has to be pretty big and reynolds needs a darkside as well.

  17. I think it’s a good fit. Reynolds was pretty funny in Blade 3.

Despite his somewhat uninspired origin (created by Rob Liefeld whom many comic fans hate) he’s become a well developed and fun character (thanks to Joe Kelly mostly I think).

He’s nicknamed the merc with a mouth for a good reason. He’s kind of compared to a more crass, insult tossing version of Spider-man.

He also has a bit of a tragic side to him as even though he has the healing factor, it didn’t change his grotesque appearance due to cancer. That’s why he wears the full suit and goes nutso when he loses his mask.

Joe Kelly and company did a great job when they created a monthly comic series for Deadpool.

Question is who would be Deadpool’s main adversary? Taskmaster? I dunno, can’t really think of anybody who Deadpool can play off of or make of fun of.

  18. Deadpool is a great character. You need a character actor to play the part and hopefully Reynolds will fill the bill. The character was also a part of teh Weapon X program, so hopefully that will also be the connection between the two.
