Wesley Snipes Joins The Art of War 2

Wesley-Snipes-Art-War-2Poor Wesley Snipes. This man has had a lot of troubles recently. The latest of his troubles was having to drop out of a great Spike Lee gig because his legal troubles won’t allow him to travel to where they’re filming. Poor Wesley.

Lest you think I’m being sarcastic, I actually like Snipes. He’s been a fun dude to watch on the screen… certainly nothing legendary or overly special, but a fun leading man nonetheless (hell, I even liked Drop Zone). But the man has become synonymous with legal problems and worse than that, being a bastard to work with. This has all left Snipes with precious few decent project opportunities… it’s gotten so bad, then he’s apparently signed up to do Art of War 2. The folks at Cinematical give us this:

At first, they say, he wasn’t going to star in the sequel, but maybe money problems and traveling issues inspired him to reconsider. Snipes starred in The Art of War in 2000; it was a mid-range, generally-forgotten action movie that starred him as UN covert op that uses questionable means to keep the peace. However, then he’s framed for the murder of a bunch of Vietnamese refugees, and he has to find the answers in the typical wrongly-accused film fashion.

They’re being kind. The first Art of War movie was absolute trash. A wannabe action film with some wannabe political thriller intentions all rolled into one big mess. A totally forgettable film that I can’t for the life of me imagine why they’d want to make another one.

I mean really… if you MUST make a sequel to an older Snipes film, do Drop Zone 2: Still Dropping. Or perhaps Boiling Point 2, or maybe even Passenger 58. But Art of War???

  1. (Type your comment here. Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so)Yo wesley is the man and he is a legendary action hero he was voted martial artist of the year after Blade came out. Bourne idendity was a wannabe action film. If you know how to watch action this guy is so much more developed in art of war than dropzone or 57. Yo wes is the man.

  2. Hey “John”

Actually, that’s not true. Art of War was not a canadain film. It’s a Warner Bros/Morgan Creek/Armen Ra Films production… all American production companies. They just filmed it in Canada.

  3. You know why they want to make a sequel to Art of War? Because “they” are a Canadian company and Art of War is one of the biggest Canadian hits of all time. A very bad action movie with an American star will still do better at the box office than a good movie with no-name actors that can’t get booked into any theaters. (If Donald Sutherland is in a movie these days, it might just be Canadian…)

  4. I would have to agree, Gio. If it was a toss up between a sequel to Art Of War and Passenger 57, I’d rather see a sequel to Passenger 57. If it was between a sequel between Passenger 57 and Drop Zone, my tip of the hat goes to Drop Zone.

    If it was Blade 4…

Well, let’s put it this way. White Men Can’t Jump 2.
Better yet, screw sequel-itis, give Spike Lee a call. Two of Snipes best films were with Spike.

  5. YO WESLEY SNIPES IS FUN O WATCH…FROM WHAT I HEAR AROUND THE NET..HE IS A ASSHOLE THOUGH, LIKE HE ALWAYS HAS SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT EVERYTHING….I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE BUT WHAT I CAN SAY IS THAT OUT OF MOST OF THE MARTIAL ARTS YOU SE IN MOVIES….WESLEY SNIPES IS REALLY THE ONLY ONE I SEE UTILIZING ACTUALL PERFECT TECHNIQUE…..JASOM STRATHOM IS COOL BUT HIS CHOREOGRAPHY ISNT REALLY BASED ON NATURAL TRAJECTORY AND HUMAN ANATOMY….ART OF WAR WAS A COOL MOVIE….BUT I THINK W/E WESLEY DOES I WILL WATCH CAUSE IM SURE THAT IF HE KICKED ME IT WOULD HURT =)

  6. Maybe he should just keep away from the action films he has been doing for the past several years and try to go back to what he started out doing with Spike Lee. He didn’t start out as an action star he was in films that actually required him to act.
