Movie Mistakes

I love catching little mistakes in movies. Not story mistakes… but little “cought on film” continutiy errors that were either missed by the editors, or that they just didn’t think was worth re-shooting or that many people would notice. I still remember the first time I cought a mistake… it was in Raiders of the Lost Ark… and there were 2 of them (that I cought at the time). The first on was the girl sitting in her Nepal pub alone, looking at the headpiece of the staff of Ra hanging on a chain around her neck. The camera angle changes and POOF! It’s not around her neck anymore. The other one was a fly walking into a guys mouth while he was giving a big speach about the ark… and he NEVER EVEN FLINCHED! That’s a pro.

Well… looks like Casino Royale has made it’s way onto the top 20 most mistakes already. The good folks over at Cinematical give us this:

Perhaps the filmmakers were too distracted by the uproar that Craig’s casting created to notice the flubs throughout the film. Starpulse has reported that Casino Royale is already in the Top-20 of mistake-filled films on MovieMistakes.com.

Moviemistakes.com is a really fun site. You start reading through all the crap and just count how many times you go “Oh yeah!” when you read about a mistake in one of your favorite films. You should go over and check it out. They also have this great little example video they’ve put together:

  1. i like the mistake in Pearl harbor. its quite a big one too.

you can see it happen just after the opening credits and it ends just as the closing credits begin.

  2. oh man, movie mistakes are the best. the funniest i’ve ever seen was in Teen Wolf, after everyone rushes down after the championship game. look at the bleachers- there’s a guy exposing himself to the camera.

  3. Casino Royale with 21 mistakes is 4th in mistakes for 2006, it doesn’t even crack the top 20 of all time most mistakes. I’m not sure exactly where it is but to give some type of evaluation, batman returns with 83 mistakes is number 30.

  4. They’re tons of fun to spot, and a fair amount of movie mistakes like these are actually known by the editors before they go into the final cut (not all of ’em, mind you). Almost all films have an A.D. that takes notes strictly about continuity: (what prop was in what condition at whenever time of the dialogue)…

But sometimes the other “takes” of the same shot might plain suck – so they use the take with the mistake in it – hoping no one will notice – and *MoSt* of the time, at least at first glance, hardly anyone does.

  5. The first one i ever caught wasin the movie Commando, when he cracks up the yellow Porshe into the telephone pole. The thing is wrecked, he flips it back over drives away and it looks fine. 2 seconds later in another shot its all banged up again.
