The Dink Heads to Apple TV
Apple TV has officially announced that the upcoming sports comedy The Dink will premiere globally on the streaming platform on July 24, 2026. The film follows the story of Dusty Boyd, a former tennis prodigy played by Jake Johnson, who finds himself at a crossroads while coaching at his father’s country club.
The plot centers on Dusty’s struggle to gain approval from his father, played by Ed Harris, as he navigates a personal and professional conflict involving the rising popularity of pickleball. After an injury forces him to step away from tennis, Dusty reluctantly turns to the sport he once looked down upon, eventually finding common ground with his partner, Candace, portrayed by Mary Steenburgen. The story culminates in a high-stakes battle for the future of the club and Dusty’s own sense of identity.

The film is directed by Josh Greenbaum, known for his work on Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, from a script penned by Sean Clements. The production is backed by a team of producers including Ben Stiller, John Lesher, Rob Paris, Mike Witherill, and Jake Johnson. The project features an extensive ensemble cast that includes Patton Oswalt, Chloe Fineman, Chris Parnell, Aaron Chen, and Andy Roddick.
For fans of sports comedies, the involvement of producer Ben Stiller suggests a tone similar to his previous work in the genre. The film’s premise of an underdog story set against the backdrop of a suburban country club rivalry provides a fresh take on athletic redemption narratives.
