A New Vision from Daniel Warren Johnson
Superstar writer and artist Daniel Warren Johnson is set to launch his most ambitious project to date. The creator behind the hit Transformers run and the Eisner Award-winning Do A Powerbomb will debut an all-new series titled Chainkata this November from Image Comics.

The series follows Luma, a warrior queen wielding a chainsaw as she traverses the vastness of space. While she seeks peace, she finds herself constantly pursued by violence and terror across the galaxy. Johnson describes the project as the culmination of nine years of development, noting that he began sketching the character in 2017 before finally crafting a story he felt was ready for publication.
Building on a Decade of Acclaim
Johnson has established himself as a powerhouse in the industry with a string of critically lauded titles. His portfolio includes Extremity, Murder Falcon, and Wonder Woman: Dead Earth. According to the announcement, Chainkata is designed to blend the high-stakes science fiction elements found in his previous work on Beta Ray Bill with the character-driven storytelling that defined Do A Powerbomb.
The launch of this series is particularly notable given Johnson’s recent trajectory. His ability to balance high-octane action with emotional depth has made him a fan favorite, and this new title represents his attempt to bring a fresh perspective to the sci-fi genre. Fans can expect to see more of the project during San Diego Comic-Con, where promotional appearances are planned.
Chainkata #1 will be available at local comic book shops and through various digital platforms in November 2026.
