The world of professional boxing meets the gritty criminal underworld in the latest project from executive producer Curtis 50 Cent Jackson. STARZ has released the official full trailer for Fightland, a new revenge drama that promises a blend of high-stakes action and complex family dynamics.
The series follows Duke Kilroy, played by Howard Charles, a former world heavyweight champion who returns home after serving eight years in a U.S. prison. His incarceration followed the death of his brother, and upon his release, Duke discovers he was set up by his former promoter, Kingsley Marshall, portrayed by Nicholas Pinnock. With Kingsley missing, Duke must navigate a dangerous criminal landscape to dismantle the empire from within and find the man responsible for his downfall.
A New Direction for STARZ
Fightland marks a significant milestone for the network as its first wholly owned series. This move is part of a broader strategy by STARZ to expand its library of original programming. The series is created by Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith, who also serve as executive producers and writers alongside showrunners Damione Macedon and Raphael Jackson Jr.
The project is notable for being Jackson’s first internationally produced show through his G-Unit Film and Television banner. With Otto Bathurst, known for his work on Peaky Blinders, directing the first two episodes, the series aims to deliver a visually striking and intense viewing experience.
Cast and Premiere Details
In addition to Charles and Pinnock, the ensemble cast features Deborah Ayorinde as Joy, the wife of Kingsley and the former love of Duke’s life. The cast also includes Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Charles Babalola, Tahirah Sharif, Tyler Conti, and Richard Pepple.
Fans can catch the premiere of Fightland on Friday, July 31. New episodes will be available to stream weekly on the STARZ app and all associated streaming and on-demand platforms.
