The first set photos and official synopsis from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

We’ve learned that filming has begun for the Marc Webb film “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” in recent days and the inevitable spy photos from the set have begun appearing online from none other than the director himself. Clearly his confusion as a double operative shows that this movie is a bad idea, right? Anyhoo, we’ve since discovered the official synopsis for the film as well as a cast listing and synopsis:

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Sounds interesting enough. I had no idea that the film was ready for shooting seeing as how it hasn’t even been a year since the release of the last film but I guess it’s ok since they started working on the script well in advance, and Paul Giamatti finally succeeded in his 2 year campaign to play the Rhino. Seriously, people forget he’s been gunning for this role for 2 years and I love pointing it out to people when they comment on him securing the role. That said, this is a grab-bag cast and I’m still not terribly optimistic with this film, but I do expect it to be better than the mediocrity that was in Webb’s first effort. F’n cranes.

The film will see Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Martin Sheen reprising with Jamie Foxx joining as Electro, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Paul Giammatti as the Rhino and Felicity Jones in an unnamed role.
