George Lucas releases FRAMES in Gorgeous Collector Set

George Lucas has found another way to cash in on his massive film franchise Star Wars, but this time it will be something that hardcore fans will appreciate and a collectors item worth having.

Frame by frame, images were pulled from the film and from those selected, Papa Smurf collected and organized them into six volumes of screen images to create the ultimate collector’s piece for Star Wars fans.

There are 1138 copies of this collection put out and will be coveted indeed.

I figure these will cost more than I can imagine and I can imagine quite a bit.

  1. New movies would be great instead of going to the well over and over again. All the time spent on cashing in more on the old movies could be spent on new stories, scripts, putting crews of people together as in, creating JOBS to make more movie magic but it just seems Lucas has ran out of that and only can regurgitate what he’s done in the past. How much crap can one collect? Insane…

    1. Everything he creates requires people and jobs. You think that he is just redoing whats already done and it just magically happens?

The current 3D remastering of the six films planned will have many people employed for a good 6-8 years.

Just because they are not making new Star Wars movies hardly means he is no longer employing people. And just because he isnt making movies doesn’t mean there are no jobs in Hollywood.

      1. Again we come back to the re-doing of what has already been done. My post wasn’t just about jobs which you chose to single out for whatever reason (maybe because I all caps’d it) but it’s enough already. I wish Lucas would come up with more ideas outside of adjusting his past work? I hesitate to even reply to the 3D remastering since you obviously have such a hard-on for 3D but when I was 7 watching New Hope I just couldn’t help thinking how much better it could be if it were ran through a 3D filter… NOT!

I don’t frequent this site a whole lot but when I do I’m always amazed how you always manage to talk up or insert 3D in to a conversation as much as you do. 3D is cool and all but it doesn’t help the story or plot. 3D only helps the visual effects like surround did for sound, only surround sound didn’t add to the price of admission. A movie that sucks will suck with or without 3D as a great movie like New Hope, Empire or Jedi will still be great with or without 3D. Again, time would be better spent in other areas trying to generate new ideas rather than gussying up and trying to perfect a movie that is already awesome and has captured the hearts of millions and will continue to do so for lifetimes.

Bottom line, Star Wars is a cash cow that will probably never run dry so why bother arguing about it or anything that is done with the franchise?

      2. I find a deep irony that you stress something and when I address it you suggest it wasn’t the focus of your point.

Furthermore, you fabricate some concept that I have a “hard on for 3D”

I mentioned the 3D because it is relevant. You complained that he was not being creative and putting out something new which by your measurement was costing jobs. I didn’t try to force the topic of 3D here. It is entirely relevant to your complaint. 3D is just one of the ways Lucasfilm is keeping busy and keeping those jobs.

And we don’t know that post production 3D is as good as it gets because someone hasn’t done better yet. There was a time when CGI looked downright cartoony, but now when done right you can hardly tell the difference. I hope they discover a method that works well so we can experience these films in a new format. Doesn’t mean I have a hard on for 3D. I don’t join that minority that hate on it, but that doesn’t mean I am irrationally in favour of it.

But the point you were trying to make is that you don’t like him returning to celebrate a cultural phenomenon, I dare ask how making new stories is any different than what he has been producing lately?

The prequels were new, so are the novels, so is the Clone Wars TV show or video game story lines. There are new products being introduced all the time that expand on the Star Wars Universe.

To address your last point, which actually proves you don’t have one… the only reason it IS a cash cow is because of its fanbase. People want more Star Wars. If they didn’t he wouldn’t be able to sell it.

That he chooses to do a project celebrating specific frames from the film in a collector set few will be able to afford is hardly a fault.

  2. It seems like a nice set for serious collectors to have. I don’t see how he’s doing it for the money. Even at $1000.00 a set you’re only talking about $1.1 million. That doesn’t seem like enough money to really be considered a cash grab for a billionaire like George.

    1. I agree with your point that this item would not really bring any real cash into George Lucas’s wallet, but at the same time a book of stills of the movie is a poor excuse of a collector’s item. These aren’t rare behind the scene images, or notes of how the scene was done. This is someone on a computer, watching the film, and taking screen captures. How much time could it really take to do that? Its not a lot of cash, its what we call quick flash cash!

  3. “Hey Martha, heading out to the barn to go milk my cash cow”. I do not see how single scenes taken from the movie and printed on larger paper is a special collectors item. I am still waiting for the Blu-Rays to come out. Of course, they will most likely be bare bones with little extras on them. Then to be followed a couple of years later with a more “special” edition. Then followed by the “special” 3-D edition. Then rumor dropped for the “special” ultimate edition for collectors. Meaning, it will have decent behind the scenes stuff on it.

  4. You know what he should do is….RELEASE ALL THE “ORIGINAL” VERSIONS ON DVD NOT THAT SPECIAL EDITION CRAP HES BEEN SHOVING DOWN OUR THROATS SINCE 1997!! saw those when i was 8 years old and thought to myself “What a hunk of junk!” didnt care if its 0.5 past lightspeed (and again im going to pull the its not like the originals) card its just the special effects take you out of the whole look of the film

    1. He did.

There is a collectors set that has the originals and special editions side by side in one set. Thanks for coming out.

And I find your statement that the special effects take you out of the whole look of the film when there is already TONS of special effects even in the original Star Wars prints.

Did you think they shot this in real space with real aliens and real spaceships???

  5. Crazy how looking at this video and seeing Papa Smurf sift thru all these scenes frame by frame PRINTED. and he seems like a kid in a candy store. he seems MORE obsessed than ANY hardcore StarWars fan I’ve ever seen.

    Geeeesh!

    Nice looking set though.
