Blu Tuesday DVD and Bluray Release Report December 21st 2010

Twas the Tues before Christmas and stores are all full, and with that brings a significant haul of new releases on the shelf!

SaltCheck out our Review

As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) swore an oath to duty, honor and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt’s efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: “Who Is Salt?”

Saw it. That’s all I need. This wasn’t worth a repeat rental, and certainly not a buy.

Easy ACheck out our Review

After a little white lie about losing her virginity gets out, a clean cut high school girl (Emma Stone) sees her life paralleling Hester Prynne’s in “The Scarlet Letter,” which she is currently studying in school—until she decides to use the rumor mill to advance her social and financial standing.

Stone is insanely charming and this movie was fun. I would buy it just because of Emma Stone.

Devil

Five strangers in Philadelphia begin their day with the most commonplace of routines. They walk into an office tower and enter an elevator. As they convene into this single place, they are forced to share a confined space with strangers. Nobody acknowledges anybody else. They’ll only be together for a few moments. But what appears to be a random occurrence is anything but coincidental when the car becomes stuck. Fate has come calling.

I have been waiting for the release to see this on video. I will give it a shot on rental.

Wall Street: Money Never SleepsCheck out our Review

Emerging from a lengthy prison stint, Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) finds himself on the outside of a world he once dominated. Looking to repair his damaged relationship with his daughter, Gekko forms an alliance with her fiancé Jacob (Shia LaBeouf), and Jacob begins to see him as a father figure. But Jacob learns the hard way that Gekko—still a master manipulator and player—is after something very different from redemption…

The movie was a fitting sequel heavy with messages suitable to the times back then as it is now. Worth the buy.

Step Up 3DCheck out our Review

New York’s intense street dancing underground comes alive in the third installment of the STEP UP franchise as the raw, passion-fueled culture goes global. A tight-knit group of street dancers, including Luke (Rick Malambri) and Natalie (Sharni Vinson), team up with NYU freshman Moose (Adam Sevani), and find themselves pitted against the world’s best hip hop dancers in a high-stakes showdown that will change their lives forever.

Wasn’t much more than showing off some 3D techniques and lots of dancing in 3D. Way too obvious. Worth the watch for the dancing. But if you don’t care about a plot or acting, its fun to watch.

Family Guy: It’s a Trap!

Clear some space for the third chapter of the funniest freakin’ trilogy in the galaxy! Once again, the Family Guy alliance travels far, far beyond the beyond the boundaries of good taste to bring you an outrageous sci-fi spoof filled with hilarious humor, adequate animation and a happy ending (giggity). So get ready to experience the lighter side of the Dark side with Peter Solo, Chris Skywalker, Princess Lois, Stewie Vader… and some surprising new faces. May the laughs be with you!

I got the other two, so why not?

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole

Soren is a young owl enthralled by his father’s epic stories of the Guardians of Ga’Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones.
While Soren dreams of someday joining his heroes, his older brother, Kludd, scoffs at the notion, and yearns to hunt, fly and steal his father’s favor from his younger sibling. But Kludd’s jealousy has terrible consequences—causing both owlets to fall from their treetop home and right into the talons of the Pure Ones. Now it is up to Soren to make a daring escape with the help of other brave young owls. Together they soar across the sea and through the mist to find the Great Tree, home of the legendary Guardians—Soren’s only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving the owl kingdoms.

The images looked outstanding, but the characters were looking distractingly creepy and I lost interest. I might rent it.

So what’s making your “must have” list this week?
