Noomi Rapace Signs on to Sherlock 2

We mentioned last week that Noomi Rapace, famous for the sleeper foreign language hit The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was in talks for Sherlock Holmes 2.

Well word has it that she has officially signed on to the film. FilmoFilia says:

Swedish actress, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star, Noomi Rapace has signed on for her first English-language role, the female lead in the Sherlock Holmes sequel, where she will appear alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

The quote states this would be her first English Language role, however she is already attached to Hansel and Gretel:Witch Hunters, which was announced late last week. Might be splitting hairs on which is her “first” depending on which one she signed on for first or which comes out first etc. But anyways…

No word on the role she will play, but rumour says it will be a french gypsy woman. I think Sweedish might work better for her, but she does have a look that will lend well to an exotic gypsy.

I really enjoyed Sherlock Holmes, and I look forward to more. It beautifully set itself up for a sequel clouding the identity of the true nemesis until the very end, and now wild speculation on who might play Holmes’ greatest adversary is a foot.

How do you feel about Rapace being added to the cast?

  1. IMDB says Law and McAdams are rumoured. I’m guessing at the very least, Law has to be back (schedule permitting) but I’d also like to see McAdams back, maybe having a little cat-fight with Rapace?

I haven’t seen Dragoon Tattoo either, but I’ve only heard good things about the movie (GREAT things about the books). From what I’ve heard, she’s a nice addition to this flick.

  2. Can’t really say I LOVED it, Downeys Take was ammusing as was Laws, Woulda liked to see McAdams in more skimpy outfits or at least 1 skimpy outfit (as alluded in the trailer!)but thats just the pig in me.
Guy Ritche on the other hand could do no wrong for me after I saw Lock, Stock…….then he Made Snatch.(not as great as lock, stock but worthy none the less) after that is was downhill for me with anything that had his nake attached. BUT Sherlock was indeed interesting, and his input was clearly in that film so…….I’d give it a go again.
as for this actress, I haven’t seen Dragon Tatoo but am curious

  3. @Bcreek you are not alone, I enjoyed the film also. I loved Jr. and Law. They both performed wonders with the characters they were given. Only gifted actors could do things like they did. Ritchie as a director is still hard to swallow but his films have been consistent. I enojoyed his take on the relationship between Holmes and Watson. This news is marvelous. Wasn’t there word that Lewis would be the villain. Anyone knows what happened to that?

  4. I’m probably in the minority of people who actually really enjoyed Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. This particular news really excites me for the sequel. Noomi is an amazing actress, and I’m really looking forward to what she can do in a more mainstream project.
