James Cameron talks Avatar 2

Its no secret that James Cameron loves the water, so is it any surprise that his plans for Avatar 2 will include more adventures around the Oceans of Pandora?

io9.com quotes Cameron:

We created a broad canvas for the environment of film. That’s not just on Pandora, but throughout the Alpha Centauri AB system. And we expand out across that system and incorporate more into the story – not necessarily in the second film, but more toward a third film. I’ve already announced this, so I might as well say it: Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment – a different setting within Pandora. And I’m going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rain forest. I’m not saying we won’t see what we’ve already seen; we’ll see more of that as well.

I wonder what kind of conflict he will bring into the story. Perhaps it will just be a Na’vi vs Na’vi story with other tribes. I can’t imagine that there is only ONE tree of life or just that one tribe.

Perhaps there are less noble Na’vi out there who reject the teachings of the tree of life and are all angsty for being cut off from its devine communication. Lets see a war with those!

I really don’t want to see more humans coming back, but I suspect it will have something to do with the story. The humans got run off in the first film, but I doubt they would just leave that alone and say “oh well” to that Unobtanium deposit that sells for such rediculous amounts of money per ounce.

Some greedy bastard with a bigger gun will go back and not underestimate them, and then perhaps the Na’vi will have to call on their angsty other tribes to come to their aid.

  1. I believe Cameron will continue to use this franchise for telling Wild-West-ecological parables. The neverending conflict between rational thinking and heart seems to be Avatars main motive, something that forever will keep on stimulating peoples minds. I bet he once again will find himself some kind of classic dramaturgic Characterdriven storyline like Pocahontas that anyone can relate to, take it to his backgroundsetting of Pandora, spice it up with hints towards recent eco-political dillemas like global warming catastrophes.
For the thrid film he’ll probably have some sort of Meteor approaching Pandora, and whereas the Navi will say it is their fate to believe in some sort of spiritual-remedy the humans will try to fight it off “Armageddon”-style, in the end humans and Navi will have to combine their forces to fight of the threat and once more learn to trust one another.

  2. it sucks that nothing is real in this movie the only perfect woman you see is in a movie and this one hits all the check marks it sucks why cant there be people like that here people cant ever get anything correct

  3. I think the film made it clear that there’s many Na’vi clans. I think there’s only one Well of Souls though, because it’s located in the center of the EM vortex on Pandora that the Hallelujah Mountains levitate in. There’s probably a bunch of tree of voices.

We know Jake and Neytiri will be in it because the actors signed on to do three films.

I’m curious to see what they can ride in the ocean, like a giant Pandoran shark!

  4. i wouldn’t be surprised if Cameron will sue you for thinking you already read the script or use witchraft to read his tought about how avatar will be done, because i think you just got the premise for the next two films. haha

  5. Maybe for the 2nd film a Titanic full of Aliens will crash into a big iceberg in Pandora’s south pole full of piranhas and the Na’vi (with the help of a few Terminators) will hop into their power-loaders for the ultimate epic showdown in the 3rd film – and just for the hell of it the Ringwraiths will make an appearance…
