Disney to Move Forward with Tron & Avengers Animated Series

Seems that Disney is moving fast with their new toys, and they are playing well with their existing franchises too. Some animated series are in the works for Tron, as well as for The Mighty Avengers.

Geeks of Doom shares:

On December 17, 2010, Tron: Legacy will be released in theaters. Disney has decided to use the constantly-growing buzz around this return to Tron to develop a brand new animated TV series to air on the Disney Channel. The show will be aimed at kids aged 6-14, and a 10-part animated mini-series of episodes will begin airing in the Fall of 2011 to set the actual series up.

This timing seems a little awkward. They are making a Tron Animated series nearly a full year after Tron comes out? What if the movie isn’t as big a hit as they (and by ‘they’ I mean ME dammit) hope it will be? I guess that will give them plenty of time to cancel it if it does right?

But they are also making an animated series of The Mighty Avengers to gear up anticipation for the film destined to land in the summer of 2012.

Disney also announced a second new animated TV series, this time using their massive acquisition of Marvel to reach out to the eyes of younger viewers. The show will be called The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and will be aired this upcoming Fall.

Now that makes sense to me. Setting up the film with some brand recognition ahead of time. I look forward to seeing what they do with that.

Looks like Avengers is less likely to be canon with the feature film, but I would wager that a Tron animated series will fit in well with the movie. Perhaps serving as a prequel?

I am good with Avengers standing as its own thing. Tron has a lot of potential to fill some gaps.

  1. Priceless. There’s a lot of people out there who said “No, Disney won’t be effecting what Marvel makes, they’re going to be totally separate!” who are currently having a nice bowl of their own words.

I’m sorry, but anyone who didn’t see this kind of crap coming was fooling themselves.

    1. You might want to keep that dish of your own words warm there Brendan.

Yes, Disney is making an animated series out of a Marvel property. But there is no indication at all that any Disney property will cross with Marvel.

These are totally separate. Its not like Tron will be a member of the Avengers.

  2. I hope the Avengers series is like a Marvel version of Justice League Unlimited.

I hope it really explores the Marvel Universe and retells classic Marvel storylines.

The one media where DC really dominates Marvel is animation. I’d like to see Marvel step up. I haven’t enjoyed any of their cartoon series since the 90’s X-Men.

Unless you count Superhero Squad….but that is just silly fun.

  3. The good thing about comic properties is that, like in the books, you can press the re-start button anytime.

    writers, artists, etc.

and we’ll be back for more everytime.

Tron should come out before the movie though. or at least close to the run.

  4. The Avengers is a no-brainer. It does not have to follow the films or any of the Iron Man, Thor or Hulk films. However, I wonder if it may follow the animated films put out by Marvel over the last few years. That’s the only thing. Also, there’s the question of “Iron Man: Armored Adventures” and if that will fit in or not.

    As for Tron.
Whether the sequel is a hit or not (I think it will do fine) I’m also a bit on the fence regarding an animated series. It isn’t a bad idea…but I only hope that they don’t “make it acceptable” to a younger set by dumbing things down and have annoying kid like characters Who Know Best. Put TRON in there and make him a hero.

    Better yet…

    Have a crossover!

  5. Dont worry guys, Disney wont changea thing. I actually heard they were going to do it “dark and gritty”

Actually i have an inside scoop on what it will be about:

Iron Man becomes an alcoholic, and almost ruins his life… ending his relationship with Pepper, getting Rhodey killed… and getting liver disease with his alcohol intoxication followed by heavy depression and mood swings ending in his homosexuality and severe prostitution

Ant Man beats his wife everyday because he thinks shes incompetent and doesnt do kitchen work as good as she should… and he ends up whacking her to death

Captain America starts not only brutally killing Nazis… but goes on and lynches and masacres in mass numbers many from other groups such as COMPLETELY random Russians, Republicans and handicaps

Thor kills wasp by smashing her accidently on his way from a trap-house

While the Punisher tries to join the Avengers, and murders an orphanage filled with kids, by slicing all their throats one by one. Knowing theyre poor and will possibly one day resort to criminal activities and mischievously delinquent ways.

Hawkeye deals with these problems by swallowing an explosive arrow and igniting himself on fire with gasoline, causing an explosion and ending his life. Surprisingly enough catching a hospial on fire, in which hundreds die an agonizing death

This will play every day Mon-Fri after the Jonas Brothers show and before the Miley Cyrus show
