Wild Speculation Squashed: Robert Buckley is Captain America?

Lets play a game I call “Troll fan forums for casting news and pretend it matters!” And this is precisely what happened in a whirlwind of wild speculation on the internet.

A gathering of comic book minds at Comic Book Movie spins the tale that One Tree Hill star Robert Buckley would be cast as Captain America. And within hours of that “fact” being spread apparently from some inside sources, the article has been pulled and the vague rumour returns from whence it came.

While there is some other buzz reporting that Marvel may have made the decision, the original post at CBM has been pulled and at the time, they said it was a rumor themselves. We’ve seen far too many untrue rumors develop like this in the past so it is difficult to believe at the moment until we hear more.

While not a terrible choice, it woudln’t be my first. Buckley plays a fitting role as Nathan’s agent on the ongoing WB drama One Tree Hill, and he doesn’t suck. But I still haven’t seen enough of him to really be able to form an opinion on his ability and if he could hold a candle to Bale or RDJ.

Interestingly enough, other CW actors are being tossed around the rumour mill – most recently Chad Michael Murray who’s character was more or less replaced by Robert Buckley on One Tree Hill.

Still, he would be a far better casting than any tv wrestler. I still like the idea of Chris Pine, but the more I think about it, the less I think it will happen even though it still works in my head.

With about a week before the announced deadline for casting, I would imagine they already have at least a couple contenders on the desk, but making us sweat it out.

I am rooting for Pine, or Captain Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) from TVs Chuck.

  1. The actors people are hoping for are becomming better and better, I’m glad it’s no longer John Cera and Aaron Eckhart, the younger, athletic choice seems to be the preferred. I’m still seing Eric Dane as THE Cap, but depending on how they do it, he might be a bit old. (He did also play Multiple Man in X-men, but who will notice..?)

But I have faith in this so far…

  2. Nothing against Robert Buckley but I just don’t see it, just like Tatum and Ryan McPartlin… they scream pretty boys with awsome builds who haven’t yet sharpened their acting skills.

I’m actually scared their going to screw this up… I wasn’t wowwed by the Wolfman.

I’m really hoping for Paul Walker – looks, build, not over exposed, respectable (Men’s Health, GQ), long history with Disney, been in some cool action flicks, and more talent then the others mentioned.

  3. Still keeping my fingers crossed for Captain Awesome. Pine is ok but he’s more cemented now iconically as Kirk more so than anything else, and Tatum………….he’s replaced Keanu as the Olivier of Wooden Acting. Next please.

  4. I saw a recent Heather Locklear movie called Flirting with 40 (I know, I laughed at title too!) Buckley was her co-star and he was pretty decent as well. My wife sure liked him anyhow! lol

The wife might even go see Captain America with me if he is starring in the role.

I am still hold out hope for Captain Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) myself. As a stretch, I wouldn’t be upset if it were given to Paul Walker wither. He has that moody quality that has always been a Captain America trademark.

  5. If it were up to me, I’d cast Channing Tatum as Captain America, with Chris Pine as Bucky Barnes and Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull and Keri Russell as Sharon Carter. Throw in Jason Statham as Crossbones too. And that Robert Downey Jr cameos as Tony Stark/Iron Man.

      1. agreed, he is like the worst fucking actor of all time. seriously it seems like lawrence is just naming names cause all those people would suck period atthere roles except for hugo weaving…i think he would be great as red!

    1. When Tatum learns how to act, I might have thought of him. So far he is the same guy in everything I have seen him in – and that guy isnt Cap.

And to put Pine in the backseat to Tatum? Wow, might as well recommend two big villains while you are at it… oh wait.
