Sam Raimi to Produce Refuge

Looks like Sam Raimi isn’t quite ready to give up on his supernatural films just yet, and in fact the next one he hopes to produce will feature a town terrorized by a Yeti. He isn’t directing, since he is busy gearing up for Spider-man 4, but he will have some play from the producers chair.

Rama Screen says:

Ghost House Pictures, will produce produce a supernatural horror pic titled REFUGE based on a pitch from British director Corin Hardy. The project is housed at Mandate and it’s about a remote town terrorized by a yeti. Tom De Ville writes the script.

Wait, There’s more. Blum’s Blumhouse Prods. will finance a short film with the same REFUGE premise which will be worked on by Hardy and De Ville as well. This short will serve as a teaser to help Hardy refine his vision even as the script is being developed.

I like the approach of making a short film first. There are lots of movies that are made as the result of taking a short medium and expanding it into a feature length film, and clearly there would be some advantages to taking your own short and making it feature length instead of adapting your own vision to someone else’s short film.

Raimi doesn’t often let me down and hasn’t yet with his supernatural stuff, so I am looking forward to this.
