Debbie Gibson and Tiffany are Rivals again … at Cannes

I just had a flashback, but in it I was wearing a white denim jacket and tapered jeans. The 80s was a wonderful decade with pop stars battling with big hair and friendly smiles all hoping to stand at the top of the charts. And two teen queens were racing to the top. Debbie Gibson and Tiffany.

Now, decades later the pair find themselves facing off again. Deborah Gibson’s Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus is making viral waves on the net, and will be shown as part of the Cannes Film Festival. While another film is gaining some attention as a byproduct of one of its stars. Tiffany has clawed her way out of obscurity and is staring in Blood Snow (marketed as Necrosis in the US), also screening at Cannes.

Yahoo says:

Much different than the Sci-Fi “Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus”, the Psychological Horror “Blood Snow” takes on a much more classic “Shining” type of feel. Blood Snow is a film about six friends who arrive at an isolated cabin to enjoy a long weekend in the snow. An epic snowstorm interrupts their vacation, trapping them on the mountain and resurrecting the haunting ghosts of the Donner Party.

Blood Snow was already accepted as a Cannes selection before this viral buzz started on Deborah’s Mega Shark film, and will very conveniently get attention because of the connection between the two stars.

The film also stars James Kyson Lee (Ando on Heroes) and some other minor stars (including some guy who looks like Sloth from the Goonies).

  1. LOL, looks really cheesy, just like the Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus thing, I’ll pass. I never knew Cannes was all about bad B movies like this. And could they of picked a worse title? I guess at least if has some nice looking chicks in it.

About the guy who “looks like Sloth from the Goonies”, I believe he played one of the cannibals in the original 1977 The Hills Have Eyes, that Wes Craven directed.

    1. It’s misleading to say that they are part of the Cannes Film Festival, they aren’t. They are apart of the Cannes Film Market, a market where everyone who has the money can participate in. It’s just a venue to sell their films to foreign markets, no different than AFI.

  2. Michael Berryman did not play sloth from the goonies. tiffany is way way hotter than deborah gibson, so if I had to choose, but thankfully I don’t- i’d watch blood snow…actually no I wouldn’t since I have the playboy with tiffany in it.

    1. No one said Berryman played Sloth. I said there was a guy who LOOKS LIKE SLOTH in it.

And despite my attraction for redheads, I still find Deb hotter. (and far more talented)

    2. “I think were alone now” is far better than “only in my dreams”, musically I’d give it to tiffany. Hell, I’d give it to her anyways, but as far as acting-WoW, I really don’t know and this will probably be as big as the star trek/star wars debate. Who is the more talented actress? This question will be pondered by future generations until the end of time.

    3. “I think We’re Alone Now” was a cover of a Tommy James and the Shondelles song (the same artist who gave us Mony Mony) so Tiffany can hardly be considered superior for singing it. Only in My Dreams was the first single written by a 14 year old (published when she was 17) that went platinum. A feat never repeated.

Tiffany didn’t even write her music. The two songs she is most known for are both covers. Deb only does covers in concert. She writes and arranges all her own music.

And how many Broadway productions has Tiffany been in? While we’re at it, tell me how many Broadway shows were composed and written by Tiffany?

Deborah Gibson is far more successful and far more talented. Tiffany was entertaining, be she doesn’t compare.

      1. Because your tastes may lie there, but with her career dying off 20 years ago and Deb’s never slowing down you can’t argue with talent.

Otherwise, I have to assume you are just taking up the opposition for the sake of causing conflict. You have no reasons to back up your statement other than “I like her more”
