Zac Efron in Negotiations for Charlie St. Cloud

Zac Efron is hoping to be the Kevin Bacon of this next generation, if not in talent, but in sheer volume of employment. So I wasn’t surprised to find the dancing teen hearthob attached to the remake of Footloose, but he has dropped out of that gig and is now in negotiations for a drama – Charlie St.Cloud – to be directed by Burr Steers, who he just finished working with in 17 Again.

Coming Soon shares:

Former “Good Morning America” executive producer Ben Sherwood wrote the book, about a caretaker at a cemetery who manages to have weekly meetings with a younger brother whose accidental death he feels was his fault.

It would seem Stevens enjoyed working with Zac if he is being considered for his next project, so maybe he sees something in Efron. Personally I like Efron for what he does, sing and dance. But I don’t know that he will be much different from his Troy character in Highschool Musical in the upcoming 17 Again. Time will tell.

But this new drama seems to be a step away from his Disney cookie cutter casting and if successful could open up some doors for him. If Efron proves to be more than his Disney image, he could have a long and successful career ahead of him. I don’t forsee him having much of a future if all he has is his pretty face and a few dance moves.

Maybe he could be in Highschool Musical 9 as a teacher? Or Maybe Charlie St.Cloud will show us something we haven’t already seen from Efron.
