Looks like the previous commitment made in contract for her soul will stop Emily Blunt from taking on the sultry Russian Spy Black Widow in Iron Man 2. But rumours flying about cyberspace seem to imply they already have their eye on Blunt’s replacement. Scarlett Johansson.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting the rumor that Scarlett Johansson is in discussions with Marvel Studios to replace Emily Blunt for the role of Russian superspy Natasha Romanoff, who doubles as Black Widow, in Iron Man 2.

Blunt’s commitment to 20th Century Fox and the studio’s upcoming Gulliver’s Travels may prohibit her from co-starring in the superhero sequel.

No matter who replaces her, I believe this will forever be a scar on Emily Blunt’s career that she could have played a minor role in Iron Man 2 that would have lead to an ensemble cast blockbuster like the Avengers is ramping up to be.

Now I like Scarlett Johansson, and I find her VERY appealing, I just don’t know that she would be the best pick for the sultry russion superspy. We already know Scarlett looks good as a redhead, so that is not my worry. Its more her presence. It just doesnt have that same vibe that I pictured Blunt to have that fit the role so well.

Johnasson is a great actress, so maybe she will surprise me. But right now I am leaning towards hope that this is just rumour and that she might play Wasp instead.

  1. i can’t believe all the lame hate comments about my favorite actress olga kurylenko.honestly you’ve turned an honest opiion who should play black widow to (hey lets bash on olga and say what she didnt bring to her character in oo7/hitman/max payne.Guys 1st look at each movie and how they’re all lame video game adaptations.and each needed olgas presence.she may not be te best actress but she has tons of presence.nika made hitman,natasha got u interseted into the 17min intro of max payne. and camille is the firt true equal to bond.personally i love olga.i honestly think olga would be great in a russian spy role known as black widow.she would have te right accent, and she’ll bring the character a great sexyness.also she shines greatly onscreen.it might be those emeralds of green eyes she has.but anyway that’s just me.the only thing is that i hope she doesn’t get nude she too good for it.yes too good for it.oh and the guy who says she hasn’t slept with anyone onscreen, that’s because they refuse.which im glad they do.but thats just me.

  3. I dunno why they cannot cast a real Russian actress to play this part, Scarlett is horrible.

    Bottom Line…… Iron Man has enough star power already! People will go see Iron Man on Downey’s name alone, they do not have to cast some it girl who is only popular because of paparazzi pictures. Get an athletic woman to play Black Widow and preferbly a real Russian accent!

    Wake up Hollywood, get your head out of your asses!

  4. Please! Not ScarJo! Fugly and overated! As someone above said, we need svelt and lithe. Dushku is too short, no matter what camera tricks you use. Mary Elizabeth Winstead has the body but perhaps not the face. Rachel Nichols looks good as Scarlett in GIJoe, and she was good at butt-kicking in Alias and P2. I like Olga, but she still needs practice getting into character. Odette Yustman has the body, the face, and the acting chops.

    4. I will have to disagree with you there, Rodney. She is pretty damn hot, and her legs alone are quite a marvel to see. She can pull of a Russian accent pretty well as well, oh wait, she is Russian! But why should we have a Russian play a Russian that is just silly. It would be like have a Chinese person play Chun-Li. But back on topic, she is hot. This is all assuming that “Olga” is in reference to “Olga Kurylenko”.

    5. Sorry Jeremy. I can appreciate that you are smitten with her and that you find her so distracting. I won’t tell you who to like.

      But name dropping this twiggy girl over every role like she is an A List actress is weak. She doesn’t have the svelt presence or allure that Widow has always had in the comics.

      Being pretty has nothing to do with it. I find Johansson to be pretty, but I still don’t think she is right for this role.

      I also didn’t say they COULDNT use a Russian to play a Russian. But to address your point, Olga is Ukrainian. Part of the former Soviet Union, but still not Russian. To reference your assumption about Chun-li, Kruek is half Chinese. She is more culturally relevant to the role than a Ukrainian playing a Russian.

    6. I would disagree that a half Chinese, that does not look at all Chinese, that was born and raised in Canada is not more culturally relevant, but to each there own.

      I agree, also, Scarlett Johanssen does not seem the right fit for such a flick as Iron Man 2. That said, I did not think Ledger would be the right fit for the Joker either, so I could be wrong.

      Honestly, I may just not be reading enough, but I haven’t seen Olga’s name tossed around all that much. And her being an “A” list actor has nothing to do with it. What does an “A” list actor have to do with people throwing out names of people they like? Would you prefer if people only through out “A” list actors names? I’m confused.

      I could be totally wrong, as I am not an expert on Ukraine or Russian culture, but it would seem those two would share a more similar culture than say a half Chinese born in Canada and a China born individual. Nothing against Canada!

    7. My reference to her not being A list is that she gets hired because she will do nude scenes with a great deal of comfort and shes hot. Not because she is a good actress.

      Frankly I haven’t seen her do anything that impressive. She might raise your eyebrow, but she isn’t the full package to deserve the same 3 people commenting on this site to drop her name everytime a role for a girl comes up.

      I dont get the fascination with her aside from being a pretty face.

  12. How old is Black Widow supposed to be? Scarlett feels too young to be a convincing experienced Russian spy. I was hoping they would get someone around the age of Gwyneth and Downey. I was thinking someone like Lena Headey from 300 would be perfect if she could do a Russian accent.

    1. Don’t get me wrong, I am not in support of either of these two people in this role, Olga Kurylenko is where its at. However, just because you only watch the movies where “these broads playing the same role all the time”, does not mean these are the only roles they play. In fact, in both their careers these roles are a minority. Live a little. Look up both ladies on IMDB or yahoo movies and check out some of their other movies. They do take on other roles.

  17. I dunno, Scarlet’s all about the funbags. When I think of Natasha Romanoff the words “lithe” and “svelte” come to mind. Plus, Scarlet doesn’t really fit the femme fatale thing.

    Personally, I thought Emily Blunt would’ve been perfect. Since she can’t do it, it’s time to knock on Olga Kurylenko’s door.

  18. Hazmat, Ghost Rider friggin’ rocks (Not the movie, the comic character). Personally I like him more then Moon Knight. Ghost Rider is a Spawn-Lite, and I love me my Spawn.

    1. hey i read the comicx too and i 100% agree…ghost rider freaking rules…hes on that liost of superheroes that are too badass and violent to be in any boy scout team liek the avengers (punisher, moon knight ect)

      but moon knight…hes fuckign insane…ive said it countless times but..the guy peels criminals faces off and skins them with his blades! cmon!
      the guy is the same exact thing as batman..only that he curses and kills…if you ever wanted a batman that curses and tortures/kills…moonknights the guy

      hes rich and he has a car and a boat and a jet plane (AND he has them in superheroe mode..like the batmobile) and hes not only got the gadgets but hes into the whole super soldier shit they put captain america on..and emil blonski..and i think bucky…

      And he has superstrength that wanes by the phase of the moon.

      So he is Batman with an Egyptian Motif and ALSO has super strength.

      That is why he is not getting a movie. He has ALWAYS been considered a Batman ripoff. With super strength.

      someone that reads comic books should know moon knight and batman are NOTHING alike. i compared batman to moonknight a little to show that the little similarities they have can get him in the big screen just like bats, and the rest, the differences, is what makes him BETTER, which is like the other 90%

      moon knight fights werewolves, he tortures, he kills, he LOVES blood, hes insane, hes jewish, he curses at the people that work for him and treats him like shit, and he hates most superheroes

      wayne fights crime to avenge the murders of his parents whereas mooknight beats up whoever has it coming because he believes he is the avatar of the egyptian god of vengeance and it helps him to feel better about all the people he killed when he was a mercenary…thus, while batman is motivated by vengeance for wrong done to his parents, marc spector primarily seeks redemption from crimes he committed in his mercenary past (cool!) batman takes on other personalities merely to aid in his fight. but moonie has three alter egos which aid him as much in dealing with personal demons as fighting lawbreakers, and which have taken a further psychological toll of causing dissociative identity disorder…hes the exact opposite of what batman is….and hes BETTER because of that

      in different comic books he was a navy seal, a marine and a mercenary….but they all agree that he was in the army and that he was in the super soldier list. not like bruce wayne (?)
      the guy had his whole body break and melt and crust up into millions of pieces because of the hobgoblins venom bomb and he had reed richards build him a metal body suit to keep his body together…awesome metallic suit…not at all like batman

      besides….moon knight would NEVER….EVER…fight crime with a little teenager…or get his ass beat by a penguin…although he did get beat up by a werewolf…kinda the same..batman…moonknight…same guy (?)

    3. They both function out of vengeance. What the revenge is for doesn’t matter. Its still revenge.

      Batman takes on a different identity (and fights his personal demons) and so does Moon Knight. Same thing.

      Batman has fought werewolves and vampires too. And he hasn’t been beaten by a Penguin.

      Moon Knight was not a “super soldier” he gets his strength from an artifact the Egyptian dig he was on. It wanes with the phases of the moon. So he relies on Gadgets and other weapons like Batman does.

      And your last point is that he was military trained in martial arts. Wayne was also trained in martial arts.

      The ONLY difference between them is that one has supernatural powers that come and go with the phases of the moon.

      He is a Batman clone.

      And I am someone who reads comics. For over 25 years now.

      theyre 2 completely different characters…just the fact that batman is a primary respected member of the JLA makes him different from moonknight…everyone calls him “looney mooney” and calls him “killer” “crazy” even “satist”

      the way people look at moonknight is completely different then the way they look at batman…the way batman looks at people is a 180 degree turn from what marc spector sees in people
      same with life…moonknight and batman have a different view of life…and death

      sure people can be superficial about it and say “hey they look alike..i think they both fought a wolf once?” but if you know them both..theyre NOTHING alike

      what kind of superhero doesnt function out of some sort of vengance?? its all about the choices they do and the way they do things

      they dont even look alike…batman wears all black and moonknight wears white and uses a staff…the guy wears a hoodie 24/7…how does he look like batman? he curses the shit out his butler all the time..i just dont see how hes anything like batman….

      and he IS a super soldier…not in the original comics but recently hes been identified as an ex super soldier military experiment gone wrong…i dont like it..but its a good idea. the first time i read it was in ultimate spiderman..then after that they went with it

      batman never joined the military…moon knight isnt into criminology…batman doesnt thrust logs through criminals heads and ask people if they wanna give it a go..moonknight isnt a detective….batman doesnt talk to himself every day out in public…moonknight doesnt give a shit if a bad guy dies or not….batman would never slide a blade down a womans skull (yeah moonknight did it..but she was bad) moonknight would never interrogate a bad guy and let him go afterwards without torturing him for hours….batman has never in his life said the word “FUCK!!!!!” moonknight would never let the joker do all the shit hes done…i mean how many times has the joker escaped arkum asylum? moonknight would have cut those scars around his head and made his face skin a huge “hoodie” and pulled the skin over his skull so it looks like a cute little hood….he almost did it once to a guy but decided to just take his whole face off like usuall
