New X-Men Origins: Wolverine TV Spots Online

The new TV Spot for X-Men Origins: Wolverine is online.

I like how this clip shows where this movie fits. It will be telling an origin story, but also just an early story of Wolverine with flashbacks to his youth.

Comic book geeks will notice the subtle message when Creed is looking down on a very young “James” Logan and says “He wasn’t your father…son”. In the comic books there was a story arc where Sabertooth was messing with Logan’s head and managed to convince him it was entirely possible that he was Wolverine’s father. Later, its revealed that Sabertooth and Mystique were Nightcrawler’s parents, though that also didn’t translate to the movies.

And we get confirmation that the claws were not an add on during the adamantium stage. Seeing the bone claws gave me a little geekgasm.

Also, we have a short clip to advertise some Online promo spots that remind us that Cyclops will be making an appearance in Wolverine as well (played by newcomer Tim Pocock). I would imagine the two don’t actually meet in the film since it would make their first introduction in the mansion a little odd. Cyclops may have known about Logan previous to saving him in the beginning of the first X-Men, but Logan is blissfully unaware of Cyclops.

What do you think?

  1. To all you out there who think that Cyclops is a softy, I have only one thing to say: You Must S**k A Mean D**k! Read the comics you losers L-). Cyclops Kicked Wolverine’s A*s Numerous Times. As for the X-Men movies i have seen so far THEY S**K!!! I want to see this movie just so i can see what they did to Cyclops character who BTW HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WEAPON X! Fox and the dumbass directors who made the x-men movies turned a good idea into complete C**P, because they didn’t respect the X-Men characters. CYCLOPS IS 6 FOOT 3, 195 LBS. AND WOLVY IS 5 FOOT 3, 195 LBS.( 300 LBS with his adamantium skeleton). The Guys Who Picked Out The Actors To Play The Characters MUST BE SOME REALLY STUPID B*****S! I Hope X-Men First Class And The Future X-Men Movies Will Do The Characters Justice.

  2. At this time, X-Men/Wolverine as films are under the Fox banner and not Marvel’s. So I don’t expect a Cap mention. I wouldn’t mind the ol’ Wendigo, but we can’t have The Hulk so…

(*there could have a MAGNETO reference, however—! Only Lensherr would not be “called” Magneto at that time…)

As for Cyclops. There’s Logan’s memory loss, so he does not know who even ‘Sabretooth’ is. Cyclops was younger here in this film, so he may or may not recall one chance encounter with Logan later on, if there is such an encounter. Or perhaps he does, and does not “trust him” entirely, since he rolled with Stryker’s Weapon X program.

The trailer showcases more Deadpool than Gambit; a few extra shots of Blob, and the extra snippets of young Cyke and Storm (?) are there (although not needed) to remind folks that this is “an X-Men” movie.

    1. Steve Rogers is Captain America who’s origin takes place during WWII. Since Logan meets Captain America during this time in the comics and the Captain America movie is to be released in 2011. I thought there could be a possibility of a cameo.

  3. I really don’t know what everyone is worried about. This movie looks pretty kickass to me. Don’t let the extreme disappointment that was X3 cloud your judgement. I haven’t seen or heard anything that leads me to believe this is going to be bad. I’m pretty pumped for it.

  4. Bryan Singer should get the chance to make what should of been the real X-Men 3 and disown the horrible Brett Ratner movie.

I have low expectations for Origins. The only thing it has going for it is Hugh Jackman thats it.

  5. rodney i dont think that was creed that called him son….but ur right as a huge origins comic nerd that whole scene with james and the bone claws made me smile….i hope the add rose in to explain the jean thing (but they wont)…the first trailer really has me more excited than before about this flick…cant wait

  6. I gotta say, i loved all three X-men movies…but this looks terrible besides Hugh Jackman’s performance. The villians look as good as Max Payne’s villians.

    1. I agree with Gigan (right?). There is no reason to make this. After seeing the trailer for this movie, I’d rather they just left the backstory stuff alone after X2.

  7. I remeber the Weapon X comic well and that the claws were some sort of after effect of the anitmatimum process. In the origin book the claws were now part of his mutantation. Thats fine by me cause the origin was a great book. However in the film it looked as thou the claws were sergically added to him. I think even Jean said they were in the first movie. Anyone who has the DVD should find out. Cause thats what I remeber and thought it was a logical idea.

    1. Wolverine’s claws were always believed to be a result of the adamantium bonding process. In the early 90’s that changed when Magneto ripped all the adamantium out of Wolverine’s body and he discovered that he still had claws. The Origin limited series was published over a decade later. I don’t really remember whet happened in the movies, but that’s how it went down in the comics.

  8. Hooray. Going well so far. But I don’t remember that ‘father son’ line in the book. I’ll have to re-read it. From what I read somehwere this movie is only approximately 1.5 hours long, so I hope they don’t show us too much. Can’t wait for May! I’m definitely taking my film club to see this.

    1. If they keep it true to comics, then Sabretooth will be a “brother” of sorts to Wolverine as some look at it, as Sabertooth told Wolverine “I am what you will be.” so that kind of makes it the same thing, though longer along.

  9. The script for it was mucho kick ass, but it was an early script and while its obvious a lot has stayed the same, a lot has also changed as well. But I’ve seen NOTHING at all that makes me think it’ll be bad.
