Yeah, everyone wants to offer something unique to make sure you buy a copy of this movie at THEIR establishment. Clearly this is going to be a huge release and retail chains are falling all over themselves to get your attention. I like the Blockbuster bundle that actually includes a Bluray Player to get you to make the bat-leap into HD.

Personally for me, I am just going to pick up the Bluray copy at the first place I see it at. I don’t need the toys or special boxes.

  1. This was the biggest letdown in DVD History… especially considering that The Dark Knight was the 2nd grossing movie of all time. There were so little features on the second disc, I’m surprised that Warner Bros. didn’t get sued by all these “Go Green” fanatics; it was a waist of plastic. And if they’re planning on releasing some kind of special documentary later on… they should have let us know so that we would not have wasted our money on the 2-disc edition. After I watched Dark Knight in theaters for the first time, I told my wife “I can’t wait to see the special features on the DVD”, boy was I naive! Heath Ledger deserved so much more to be remembered by (How he was chosen for the role, how he got into Character, how much he contributed to the film… not to mention THIS WAS HIS LAST COMPLETED FILM!!!). I also would have like to see how the other new characters were cast and how Nolan came up with the direction of the film… and God Forbid hints to the next chapter. All Post Production for big movies like this one need to take a hint from the LOTR (Lord of the Rings) franchise when it comes to making special features for DVD’s. DON’T WAIST YOUR $$ ON THE 2-DISK DVD!

  2. dudes! i got it today!! i watched it already, that makes my combined time seeing it 4. i got the wide screen addition, and in circuit city, they were playing the whole movie on Blue-Ray. all i had to say was WOAH, it was so clear it was like Heath was infront of me in real life!

bbtw, any bonus features on wide screen addition? because i cant find them

  3. Stores need to stop releasing bonus content with the products it is to much.

FUll Screen needs to go away. Anyone who buys the Dark Knight and watches it in full screen should see prison time.

  4. im not entirely buying nolans comment that there are no extra scenes or a longer directors cut of the film. warner brothers certainly knew this would be a major holiday item, so why release an essential bare bones release ? they’re more than willing to produce ultimate editions for shit like 300 & LEGEND. the batpod is nice, but after shelling out $50, im not too eager in running out to purchase it again for the promise of two 10 minute interviews/ extra scenes with heath leadger in full costume.
if they are holding out, they shouldve refered to the LOTR dvd release plan, one basic followed by an ultimate edition; at least your giving the consumer an option with their money.

  5. stupid marketing crap…like the movie hasnt made enough money….pfft and u wonder why people download movies for free…..arrogance is a disease and the only cure is cowbell and bootlegs!

  6. I just got back from the store (future shop), the copies were coming out of the store fast. More than half of the copies where sold and I live in frreakin Montreal :P it’s the first time I see this for a DVD on its first day in the market !!

I’m browsing the second disc right now and gotta agree with everyone on the lack of content. It’s still some pretty cool features but they could have done better.

  7. The special features are kinda lacking but what is there is pretty cool. The featurettes are all focused on tech, stunts and special effects but there isn’t a whiff of PR fluff about them. You get the IMAX sequences in full screen to watch seperately and I love those Gotham Tonight episodes but……..that’s really all there is. Like I say, lacking.

What does puzzle the heck out of me is the insistence on Ledger having no presence at all in this stuff. There’s a moment in the featurettes where they talk about the Joker’s walk out of the hospital as it blows up behind him and how they rehearsed 12 times with Heath beforehand. Yet there is no footage of him when this is said. And he must have given one interview during filming for use in TV specials and so on so where is this? We can get Joker bobbleheads and all kinds of crazy stuff with his face on but not any footage of him talking about this amazing part he created. I just find that rather odd.

  8. personally, with all the stories I heard of Ledger’s preparation for the character; I would’ve loved to see some extra features on that. Maybe some screen tests if there were any? A documentary on his experiences shooting the movie and what not? I mean there is no denying that he did a great performance that was in a cloud of mystery on his approach to it and I’m intrigued by it. 530 mill at the box office and all they offer is a two disc? which I’m sure the second disc is a stupid digital copy disc and that’s it. Not sure if anyone else agrees with me on this next note, but I think the digital copy shit is pointless. Watching great films on an ipod, cellphone, or laptop with a screen that’s really small makes me feel like im cheating myself out of a great movie experience. I’ll always take my chair and LCD TV over that shit. I’ve not once uploaded any of the digital copies of the movies I’ve bought in the last year.

  9. Grave has a point, but seeing how Batman Begins didn’t have a commentary even for the re-issue (the only new stuff I heard was hype for Dark Knight) so I cherish the previous Deluxe Edition (which included the comic book) all the more.

But I could understand the lack of commentary on Begins. That second disc was chock full of stuff, to if there was a commentary by the Nolan brothers or Dave Goyer, it would be almost redundant.
It would not shock me if next year we were to witness a box set of Batman Begins-Gotham Knights and Dark Knight. Maybe a box set with a Joker bust (not unlike Neo bust for The Matrix box set)…and that all you get.

However, from what I been hearing, The Dark Knight 2 Disc DVD is a letdown with not as much behind the scenes stuff as the previous film. The Blu-Ray edition has an additional extra- and it sounds like that History channel special about Batman and his foes “psych profiles” from this past summer. Wasn’t anything special, really, but, it’s something extra.

Thus Blu-Ray wins out. In addition, the Best Buy sounds better…when you consider the compensation to the collectors. Also, Rod, (or /film) left something off the list.

Also at Best Buy: The Joker & Batman figurines. It should be noted that a purchase of Dark Knight DVD or Bluray is not a requirement and there is only a five limit per store.
Just one (or two) more figurine(s) to put on your shelf next to the ‘puter.

I agree that the Joker card should be the Joker/Joker card we seen at the end of Begins; the Joker mask is actually the Clown mask worn at the bank heist (not a real letdown, but still, it isn’t a …well…I “guess” you call can call it a “joker mask” if folks wanted to be technical)

By the way, a die hard Batman collector would snatch them all, any and everything he/she can get the mittens on. I’m sure WB is betting on it.

And what is it with the studios skimping out on content, anyway?
I get mad enough at Sony and the lame chapter menus; now I have to get mad at Warners…sheesh.

  10. Well Im glad its on DVD now but Im so pissed that a movie as big as this didnt get more DVD extras. They could have put a commentary, Batman’s Documentary from the history channel, etc. This is one DVD I hope the studio double dips on.

Having said that I will get the DVD from suncoast where you can get in in a sliver tin like the red tin Iron Man DVD. they sold in stores months ago. Something about having a good movie in a tin case makes it more special to me.
