Terminator Salvation Concept Art

Some new concept art is out for the upcoming Terminator Salvation has hit the net and I have to say its pretty sweet.

The forcefully trendy McG is at the helm of this one and I find myself reallyliking his stuff. I tried not to because of his pretentiously self titled McG moniker, but I simply do like him. McG currently produces two of my favourite TV Shows Supernatural and Chuck.

Most of his stuff has a unique stylization to it and I look forward to his take on a part of the Terminator world that we have only seen glimpses of so far.

I like how in this art, the destroyed post skynet apocalypse Los Angeles, the hovering Terminator Craft seems to ALMOST have a terminator face itself. This reminds you that the terminators are not piloting these craft. They are living machines.

  1. That first bit of production art looks very good, however so often this initial creativity never gets to see the silver screen!!For me personally T3 was a let down but the first scenes of the future war (done by ILM!)look absolutely amazing, if that can be carried on to this show then we are in for a treat!

  2. I have seen it no where that ILM is doing Terminator 4 Salvation! Are you guys just guessing that they have the show! McG has never used them!!

  3. @ Bruce

    i fully understand your point…….
was spiderman done by ILM? i dont know :D:D

do you know they work with physics engines doing their animations?? as far as I’m concerned i’d say the universe is calcualable i dont mind what quantum physicists say i had quantum physics my self and enough of it ^^
uhm and yes Im doin VFX myself for a hobby ^^
yes i really got your point but you have to understand animators do their best and im sure they try to keep the movements of the terminators adequate as they did in T3
you know something? still today i watch T3 and I have still the greatest respect for what they did I still think the VFX are WOW and it’s been 5 years now so the VFX for 2009 especially after Transformers and IronMan will be much much better i have full trust in ILM……

  4. well every one bags the hulk jumping in the original version, so i dont see your point?

I guess these art directors know animation but they seem to never get it right, they will never get cgi right, or at least not anytime soon. They try to make things so real and so supperficial which means they cant get every aspect of somthing weather its a robot or creature right. transformers is a perfect example, jumping around like fairies, another great example is spiderman and more prticulary the ending shots of spiderman, where he is swinging all around, his legs and arms going over his head and his body moving like he is made of elastic….but do we ever se peter parker do that? no because he is real and works within the real world, any thing spiderman does is just trying to look cool. sure he got bit by a spider but through out the whole movie you are given no evidence that suggest his body became bone free. The terminators will jump and move like something from irobot and no one will question it because anyone could just say “yeah cas there strong or they have new power” but in the back of your mind you know they couldn’t.

  5. Bruce, while you are so smart and know that cgi characters need to have some weight to them did you think for a second that those animators and animation directors wouldn’t know that?

Relax. I am sure that 300lb metal skeletons will move like 300lb metal skeletons.

People complain that the Hulk moved too fast for a one ton character and he is cgi… well keep in mind that he is strong enough to leap his one ton ass a mile in the air. Its all about scale.

  6. Jake your so out of touch, i dont care about stopmo or “real” CGI inst a going to be able to add anything new to the terminators except cheap gimmicks to impress audiences. I dont care who is the best visual effects house ever, cgi si still shit. Go watch t3 now, how do the effects look? dated? there is nothing impressive about cgi. Jake see my comment on james camerons new movie avatar posted a few days ago. You must really be in to CG if you cant see its faults, i say “jumping around” becase nothing ever has correct weight or feeling and they make cg character do all this lame impressive stuff they problerly wouldnt. remember star scream swing around that ledge in transformers…wtf “but it was so cool”
as for transformers they didnt move like machines at all, because people dont wanna see that and ilm? they no that. My main point is cgi inst going to add any thing to the franchise. Its just going to make it bigger.

  7. Bruce.
The reason people liked the war scene in the first one was not because of stop motion or that it was “real” but because of bad ass metal skeletons with laser guns.

CGI will be much easier and better to have them do what they do best.

  8. @ Bruce

Do you really think ILM is going to let the humanoid Terminators jump around like bunnys or what? ILM is the best VFX studio ever EVER their animators are the best ther lighting department is the BEST (Transformers!!!) Do you really think ILM is going to make 300kg Terminators move around like shit? Do you really think that? Face the 21st century please……. the best things which happened to THIS movie are Christian Bale and Industrial Light&Magic…….
I admit that the T3 was the weaekest but the VFX were amazing, mindblowing, damn good… i have no more words……..

  9. all i can say is remember when t2 came out…man there was such a air of excitement…and when it actually lived up to the hype people harelded it…i love it …it was awesome….t3 sucked do to what people wanted….not a story with 2 chicks….one a cyborg and the other that one girl from life goes on or w/e ….nah jk i no who she is…but pretty much we wanted a fricking rampaging army of metal against rag tag gung ho survivors with beards!

  10. I don’t really believe that this movie will do good. Sorry, Warner Bros. but you’ve made some bad movies in the past, so there goes the next Terminator.

Also, I wonder, what would happen if they remade Terminator? Hmmmm…..

  11. People dont get it it. CG is bad, they have been tricked into liking it when its nothing but a gimick, its going to kill terminator because thee going to go over the top and make then do things they never could. I didnt say i wanted stop motion ones i just want the puppet ones from the first to films. Why were those war scenes from the first to so memorable? all tis new one is going to be is bigger. i have always dread the day the terminator is in cgi and they move all fluent and smooth.

  12. @Bruce

remember the beginning of T3 ? there was a shot of a T101 army walking over a field all of them were computer generated exept the one in the foregorund but I’m not sure….
AND in the end when the T101 walks out of the helicopter and says “I’m back” Arnie wore a green screen suit and half of his body was replaced by computer generated 3D geometry – just watch the making of ^^
and all of those shots looked awesome

What is your problem with CG Terminators? The mass scenes? It is a war!!! I want to see masses of Terminator Exoskelletons walking around slaughtering people
The feeling of the first movies was great I like them really much but I dont want that again that would bore me

I want to see all those stories Reese talked about and Sarah dreamed of, the drama of the future, the machines takin over and men fighting them………..

I really hope this movie is going to be GREAT we’ll see…..

  13. FUNNY THAT the comments left so far are opinions that dont reflect the masses…..im sure most of us are excited to get to see probly the best parts of the stories in the future,,,,,i really hope there is a scene where there in the cyberdine HQ or w/e trying to send homeboy back in time…..that part of the story always sounded awesome….a climatic battle just to get to the transport then to use it….AWESOME!

but i mean for the poster….its cool in all but nothing we didnt expect…pretty much it would be hard for them to mess the look of movie do to it pretty much soaked in are heads with glimpses of it in past movies…..i agree MCG is probly the lamest “name” ever and it reminds me of MCy D’s

can i get a large fry with that that douchebag

  14. Yeah, cause the stiff fake-looking robot looked SO MUCH more realistic. I really can’t understand why people claim stop motion looks more realistic then CGI. They both look fake, get the fuck over it.

  15. Why is there so much excitement over the concept art? Really!
Just looks like another HK looming over demolished buildings.

“Almost” has a face? I’m sorry, there’s nothing to get pumped up here. The first two films had HK’s that “almost” had a face. It’s futurewar, nuked over buildings would be the norm.

While I might be slightly more confident than the above commenters, and I still don’t think FutureWar is a terrific idea, they are doing just that so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Still, getting all hyped over *this* is not that big of a deal.

  16. Im not going to see these movies, its a terrible idea to make more, they are going to wreck what is great about the other 2 films. This new ones going to take any ideas created or established from t1 and t2 and just make them bland and generic. The concept art looks as if its “I am ledgend” meets terminator, horrible. they have to make the future real and what they think it will be, they cant just have fun and let people make there own idea. I dont remeber any citys or building looking like that in T2. i bet you we see a super man batman bill baord or something ridiciouls like that.

Whats going to make this film suck the most is that the terminators will be in CGI for the first time and there will be heaps of them all jumping around like I robot or spider man just to wow the audiences.
Taking away what made there on screen appearance to memorable and terrifying

These movies will just take us to places i feel we didnt need to go to or see.

  17. No surprises here at all.
We all know how the future will/should look like in this new movie, we’ve seen more than enough glimpses of it in the previous installments.
