We reported last week that Paul Dano was set to star in the upcoming indy comedy Gigantic. Today, we get news of further casting thanks to fabled the caves of yahoo:
Ed Asner, Jane Alexander and John Goodman are joining Paul Dano and Zooey Deschanel in the indie romantic comedy “Gigantic.” Dano, in theaters with “There Will Be Blood,” plays Brian, a depressed mattress salesman whose quest to adopt a Chinese baby is sidetracked when he falls for Happy (Deschanel).
Asner is set as Brian’s pot-smoking, gangsta rap-loving father, and Alexander as his long-suffering mother. Goodman will play Happy’s brilliant, domineering dad. Director Matt Aselton starts shooting the indie film Monday in New York.
Well, this movie starts to sound better with every news announcement. I find it hilarious that Ed Asner is a father with a soft spot for gangsta rap. This should make for some hilarious fatherly pep talks with Paul Dano. I hope he quotes rappers like they are biblical prophets when giving life lessons.
I am most excited with the addition of John Goodman. He was legendary in The Big Lebowski and to have him play the domineering father of the love interest should be awesome. If you had to pick a girl up at home, and her father was a burly and irate John Goodman – you would certainly be on your best behavior.
This cast looks great, and the story is outlandish and I certainly want to continue following the news on this one. Stay tuned!
