Guillermo Del Toro Wants To Direct Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

GuillermoIf I were to suggest a director for the final Harry Potter installment – It would be Guillermo Del Toro. As luck would have it, he wants the job and is letting it be known. We get this glorious news from our friends at MTV Movies Blog:

Just two months after talking “Harry Potter” with MTV News from Budapest, director Guillermo del Toro was back stateside making another pitch to helm the series seventh installment, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” “I’m definitely interested,” he insisted, “now that the movies have grown darker. They have a contrast between the gloomy existence of the kid and the world he’s exposed to. They have evolved into a really nice universe.”

This is down right huge. If I was a gambling man, I would bet that Warner Bros. is going to let the bearded dream-smith have his way with this one. He is a fantastic talent that is amassing a pile of work that demands respect. He has an outstanding eye for fantasy and is arguably one of the top go to guys for the genre. It’s smart for Guillermo to announce this, because everyone will be fighting for him.

The Harry Potter series has been better than I ever thought possible. I look forward to each installment and have enjoyed the use of different directors; I like to see the differences in style between them. In The Goblet Of Fire, Mike Newell did an amazing job capturing schoolhouse spirit and this film stands out as my favorite thus far.

I am pumped at this news, international friends do you share in my excitement, or would you prefer another director?

  1. HELL FUCKING YES.

My fav of the series is Azkaban hands-down, but if Del Toro did Deathly Hallows, I know he’d do a killer job. The guy excels with magic/supernatural elements in his films, so Harry Potter is right up his alley.

  2. I think he’d do a fantastic job but as far as i can tell, he’ll only be approached if David Yates decides not to do it. He’s the one with his foot in the door right now.

And i really don’t think that Cuaron has a chance of being asked.

  3. enough with Quidditch already… been there done that.

I can’t think of anyone who I would be more excited about directing this film. What an amazing way to wrap up the series. Pray to the Movie Gods that this one comes true.

  4. This may be the best possible marriage of material and Director, if it happens. The Question is weather the producers will let Guillermo Del Toro run with it. I think producers are going to want to put their 2 cents in and I’m almost positive that J.K. Rowlings has final say on the script. Del Toro’s gonna have to play with them, not vice-versa. Either way, I think his involvement in the project would be great.

  5. Quidditch wasn’t really a part of the last 3 books at all. If it wasn’t in the books, it has no place in the movies. Why put that in, just to please the ADD kids for 5 minutes? Grow up!

  6. That would be great though I find his non-Hollywood movies far superior as they are not bound by the strictures of commercial movie making.

Devil’s Backbone is great and Pan’s Labyrnith is a classic.

  7. @Kaneda979
    AMEN!

    and
YES! at last! i mean all of the diractors have been screwing up the HP series i mean the theme for every movie is different because of the changes and they all only show half of the book in the movie but i mean del toro does good ass movies- i think hes gonna do what the other directors didnt do: make a great book into a great MOVIE.
omg this is such good news!

  8. One crazy talented Hispanic director or another. it matters not. Alfonso Cuaron (Azkaban,Children Of Men) also let it be publicly known he wants to do Hallows. if it’s him or Del Toro, we all win.

  9. HELL YES HE SHOULD DO IT! What better way to end this series then to have him do it. Would turn out to be the best of all seven and maybe one of the best movies ever. I’d go see it more then once. And would turn out to be the first Harry Potter movie I’d actually by on DVD and be proud to own.

Del Toro for The Deathly Hallows, woot!!!
