Samuel L. Jackson Teams Up With Frank Miller In The Spirit

thspirit.jpegSamuel L. Jackson has nabbed a nefarious role in an upcoming Frank Miller film named The Spirit. We get the dish from JoBlo:

Sam Jackson has signed on to star in THE SPIRIT, the upcoming adaptation of Will Eisner’s comic series that will be written and directed by Frank Miller. Sam The Man will play The Octopus, The Spirit’s archnemesis, who kills anyone who sees his face and has plans to kill all of Central City.

Both Jackson and Miller were at Cannes where they discussed the project and came to an agreement. Lionsgate recently came aboard to finance and distribute the film, which is expected to begin filming this fall.

Frank Miller has been on a hot streak lately and I hope the trend continues. 300 was a macho assault on the senses that pumped my testosterone more than any film in recent history. Sin City was a stylized sultry delight. Strike when the iron is hot Mr. Miller, and let loose magic.

It will be interesting to see how Miller ads his own spin to Will Eisner’s original work. The Spirit is a masked vigilante caracter created in the 40’s. I hope they keep the story in the 40’s that would be a delightful nod to the period in which this hero was first conceived, and to Eisner.

The fact that Jackson’s character wants to kill everyone in the city shows just how serious he is about crime and misery. Octopus is a great name and I look forward to uncovering the meaning behind it. Does this character have an Octopus for a face? Does he befriend an Octopus that hypnotizes him? I suppose I will have to tune in and see.

  1. Lol yeah Doug he befriends and octopus who, as a twist at the end of the film, turns out to be his son:P

No in all seriousness I can’t wait to see Jackson in a role like this. He hasn’t played the proper “bad guy” in a long time (not that I can remember anyway) and I am VERY interested to see how well he works with Miller.
