Movieweb Interviews Bruckheimer On Pirates 3

Our friends at movieweb have an exclusive interview with Jerry Bruckheimer regarding Pirates 3. I have attached a small except from the interview but please go to the source and read the full interview here:

Would you consider doing a Fourth Pirates film? Do you feel there are more adventures to tell with Captain Jack, Will and Elizabeth?

Jerry Bruckheimer: There’s always more adventures… this is the end of the three; the standalone trilogy. So, we’ll see what happens… there’s a glimmer of hope at the end of the movie…

Yeah, after the credits…

Jerry Bruckheimer: (Laughs).

When you did The Curse of the Black Pearl, did you know there was going to be two other films?

Jerry Bruckheimer: No, no, it was always going to be one after the other. The success of the films led to the two other ones.

Personally I hope there are no more sequels to this series after the third. I am all for more movies about piracy, but this ship has run its course. I do not care about any of the characters enough to warrant seeing them in another spin off trilogy. I would much rather Disney throw money into a sequel we have all been waiting for – “Old Yeller 2: The Return.” It will be a tale of the undead golden dog that walks the earth – looking for rabid animals to eat.

  1. It’s funny, the supposed “Holy Trilogy” of the summer(Spidey, Shrek, Pirates) are shaping up to be big ol’ busts for me. I have zero interest in Pirates 3. Boo.

  2. See, this is the thing. I love pirate movies so i wouldn’t mind seeing another but wait ten years till it seems fresh again. Studios are so desperately afraid that their franchises will grow stale and obsolete that they think the smartest thing to do is just keep making them, and as quickly as possible, until it happens.

Waiting a decade or so to make Pirates 4 will revitalise interest in the brand that otherwise wouldn’t be there (you can re-release the first 3 films and people will buy them again for example), and people who are already sick of it right now, might just decide to give a new movie a chance.

But then again, when a studio does get itself a Pirates or a Spider-man, it seems to shift all its attention to that property and not to developing original projects and finding great scripts. Therefore, they have no back-up plan, another movie to fall back on if, for whatever reason, another sequel doesn’t get made.

    ……….It’s silly, lol.

  3. I would like to see a pirates 4 film but only bring back Johnny Depp as Captain Jack and bring in a whole new set of characters for him to play with.

  4. Funny thing is that there is already an Old Yeller 2 called Savage Sam..

As far as more pirate movies..I dont think they should make any more..I say leave it at 3

  5. I think that after the Pirates 3 frenzy (which won’t end until the dvd comes out this fall), most people will be tuckered out by the whole Pirates juggernaut that has taken place the past 3 years.

I’d love to see another Pirates films, but not for another 4-5 years. Anything sooner is….well….just too soon.

Doug, The undead Old Yeller idea sounds awesome, by the way!
