Night at the Museum helps with attendance at regular museums

night.jpgNight at the Museum was one of the highest grossing movies over the Christmas holiday season and apparently it is inspiring a higher than normal attendance at regular museums as well. The good people over at yahoo.com gave us this on the story:

The number of visitors to New York’s American Museum of Natural History jumped by nearly 20 percent during the holiday period, and a Hollywood hit is probably responsible, museum officials said on Thursday.” I think that (the movie) absolutely played a part,” Steve Reichl, director of media relations at the museum, said of the visitor increase.

He said that between December 22 and January 2 there were 50,000 more visitors than a year earlier, a period coinciding with the movie.

Here’s the premise: A newly recruited night security guard at the Museum of Natural History discovers that an ancient curse causes the animals and exhibits on display to come to life and wreak havoc.

So kids see movie, kids want to go to museums, parents and children are both educated through family outings and everybody wins. This is the feel good story of the week.

Now if only we could make a movie about how fun it is for children to give their allowances to movieblog writers….
