Veronica Mars Movie Moves Forward

Last summer news came out that a Veronica Mars movie might be on its way and much rejoicing was heard from the Bell fanboys (and girls) who were dissappointed that the show was canceled.

So to catch you up in case you never heard of this show, Veronica Mars started as a daughter of the former sherrif now private eye who showed great promise as a detective on her own. Imagine if she were a modern day Nancy Drew but hotter than Buffy. Bell’s infectious charm made the show a winner until the ratings waned when she left highschool and started college in criminology.

But now, series creator Rob Thomas has been itching to bring this show to the Big Screen and now it looks like that is moving forward.

the unexpected scale-back of his current series Cupid has freed up plenty of time to get to work on the feature film version of the teen sleuth, and that it looks like a feature film will be gearing up for production.

Just as the series was being canceled, there was a consideration that the show would leap forward 4 years to skip the rest of her college days and start with her first days as an FBI agent. The snippets of that restart for the show were available online and they looked great but that is not the story he intends to write for the feature.

“…it’s 70 percent broken in my head, I’ve been struggling with this one plot point and I’m hopeful to figure that out….I’m feeling like I’m on the right track now. But I don’t want to give that away yet.” The one thing Thomas did confirm was that fans shouldn’t get too hung up on the idea of Veronica ending up as a G-Woman. Thomas told iF,” it would open just days before her college graduation, so Veronica would be just at the end of her college career.”

I wonder if his choice to NOT put Veronica in the FBI just yet might have something to do with his hopes to respark the TV Series?

If he does a movie set in the end of her college days and its a big hit, he could have some bargaining power to bring to the networks for launching his Veronica Mars FBI series!

Either way, I will take any dosage of Kristen Bell I can get. And in my favourite role for her, I will be happy to see more Veronica Mars!
