Back in the 80s we had a metric pantload of B-Grade fantasy flicks. One in particular has a cult following for no real reason and that is Sword and the Sorcerer. Now it looks like 25 years later, we will get to see a sequel. Even if you didn’t want one, this actually looks like it might not be terrible.

Cinematical says:

A fantastic B-movie from the early ’80s is about to get a long-overdue sequel — and Twitch has lots of details! Apparently Lee Horsley will be returning for the sequel, and he’ll be joined by the likes of Christopher Lambert, Kevin Sorbo and Victoria Maurette. The outlandishly prolific filmmaker Albert Pyun had this to say about the project: “It’s got a sexy sorceress, hordes of demonic vampires, a giant serpent, sea pirates, nasty sword (and axe, spear, leg of cow) fights and gore and nudity galore. Everything that a rousing adventure needs to have.”

Now I fully agree that this film has every last detail that a good medieval fantasy action film should have. Including the inevitable cleavage of the sexy sorceress.

This does seem a little like a “hey, want a job” type of casting call. Kevin Sorbo has been nearly missing in action since Andromeda ended. Oh sure he has had a smattering of TV roles and some direct to video gigs, and we will pretend Meet the Spartans never happened.

But what about Lambert? Once the star of my favourite movies ever, Highlander (There really can only be one) and soon to be reprising his snarky god of lightning, Lord Rayden in a Mortal Kombat movie in a couple years, he really fell off the map. He seemed to fall back on French films with the occasional probationary visit to Candyland for some Hollywood fluff.

Both of these guys have an incredible amount of swordplay on screen to their names, and each can handle action. Surprisingly, they are very close in age, though very different in physique. I say stick to what you can do best and run with it.

This might be a great vehicle for these fantasy action buffs to get back in the game.

this could kick ass, Kull the Conqueror/Hercules and Highlander/Rayden in the same movie…the cheese

Apparently the late G. E. Gygax rated the original over Conan the Barbarian (which he hated)

  6. Y’know something, Sword & The Sorcerer was cheesy good fun, and honestly folks, why are you so upset over this news? Al Pyun is back in the seat, ready to one up Uwe Boll and show him how a piece of shit can be made into a entertaining piece of shit. I think he dropped the ball on the Nemesis sequels, and he sure raped Captian America ….

But folks, I smell a DTV sequel here and nothing more. Actually, I’m glad Lee Horsely took the gig, he had a great TV run with Matt Huston and Guns Of Paradise after S&S. Maybe after this, he’ll get back into TV shows and/or TV movies.

  7. Gygax hated Conan because his character’s Armour Class was too low to have resisted that much damage.

The OverRun rule alone should have defeated this half naked brute.

Wow. I loved this movie as a kid and it still holds up in the b-movie way. The end of the movie did say that Talon (Lee Horsely’s character) would return and I’ve been waiting for it ever since.

Just so you know. Lee Horsley will be in the lead in this one as well.
