First we hear of Roadhouse star Jeff Healey passed away because of cancer, and now tragically the head Cooler himself, Patrick Swayze is reported to be suffering from Cancer as well.

MSNBC says:

The “Dirty Dancing” actor has a very limited amount of disease and appears to be responding well to treatment, according to Dr. George Fisher, Swayze’s physician. Fisher’s prognosis was included in a statement released Wednesday by Swayze’s representative, Annett Wolf.

In this day and age with all the advances of medicine and treatment this “limited amount” of cancer may turn out to be nothing.

Cancer hits so many so close to home that we are almost numb to the word. But Patrick Swayze is nearly revered in the TMB inner circle and even when he was playing a cross dressing Vida Boheme I still think he had more guts than any other manly man in Hollywood.

I wish you all the best Patrick. You have kicked a lot of ass, so keep kicking and get well soon.

  2. Dear Patrick and family, The news of your cancer coming on the heels of Jett Travoltas death is hard to absorb indeed. As a Buddhist practioner, though, I have to say, despite the many well intentioned comments, that there are many and diversified ways to challange this, but, your own personal beliefs are most important. None of us is immune, or knows, when our personal missions are complete, but, if we have done our best, than, that is good enough! Look at the legacy of Dana and Christopher Reeves, what an incredible example for us to follow. We shall watch you, with love and prayers, and thank you for the great priveledge to know what incredible people you are. Please be confident, that you HAVE!!!! made a difference in our lives.

  4. Just a note of support for Patrick and his family. This past weekend we buried my ex-wife Sheri who finally lost the fight against cancer and liver failure. Butcourage to you all – the fight is a powerful thing. Sheri was told 13 years ago that she would have an absolute maximum of 2 years according to the medical profession. Her positive attitude, strength and determination lead her to volunteer as usual at a women’s center in our city just 6 days before she died. Her work was an inspiration to others but so was her attitude and never-quitting approach to life. Hope to still be ready silly, self-appointed medical professionals in te tabloids speculating about your diagnosis and prognosis in thriteen years time Patrick.

  5. I know there are many people who are suffering from cancer or who have lost someone from cancer. I lost my Mother also many family members. Growing up watching Patrick on TV makes it seem like another family member with cancer. My heart and prayers are with him and his family. God will walk each step with you Patrick,and like he said when you only see one step of footprints ,remember , that is when he is carrying you. Stay strong and God bless you each moment of the day.     I would like to say there are lots of fans praying for you and your family and wishing you a speedy recovery. Hoping to see you up on that silver screen again soon.

    I lost my 95 year old grandmother to breast cancer a few years ago and i know how trying it can be for the victim and their family. I mention this only to say, try to keep your chin up and keep fighting. This is a wage of battle but a war that I pray you will win.

    Thank you for all of the hours of enjoyment that you have provided not only for my family but for all of those families around the world.

    My dad passed from colon cancer that was undiagnosed for years, I feel he gave up in the end

    I wont give up and signed up for cryonics but hope never to use it, its a last resort.

    I always loved Patrick Swayze and feet he is a nice genuine guy. The fact that he is a smoker does not mean to say that is the cause of his Cancer.My Mother has had cancer twice, beaten it (thank God) and has never smoked in her life, so give the guy a break. I hope and pray that he beats this terrible disease as he will be sorely missed. Please pray for him. Lynda

    I have just been told I have a mass on my pancreas. I am devestated by this. I do have very good doctors at the Hershey Medical Center and I am told this is not the “typical pancreatic cancer”, they think it came from somewhere else. I am meeting with my doctors tomorrow to find out the results my endoscopic ultrasound. I just turned 40 today(Sept. 11) but this is so scary. I am a mother of 4 my son is 19, daughters are 13, 12, and soon to be 11. I need to be there for them so I am trying to keep a positive attitude. My husband an dfriends have been wonderful and it’s a 2-hr. drive to Hershey from where we live. The first person I thought of was Patrick Swayze, because he seems so nice and kind, I just felt so sorry for him when I heard the news, never thinking I would be hearing similar news also. Any information support and prayers would be greatly appreciated. Thank-You

  21. Unfortuneately Mr. Swayze will be battling this nemesis until he does die from it. It’s one of the 5 worst cancers to have. Our only comfort is that we all die, one way or another, and meet again (I hope). I feel sorry for his wife because they have no children.

    I highly recommend that you be positive and optimistic. Laugh a lot and concentrate on being well. If you plant flowers in your conscious mind, then flowers will grow in your sub-conscious. We are what we think. Whatever may be the reason for getting sick, we must not waste our energies finding someone or something to blame for it. Blaming, anger, hatred, envy, jealousy, and others are negative emotions and bring with them negative energy that alter body chemistry and eventaully make us sick. Every day we can choose either to be happy or unhappy. We only have control over what we think, what we say, and what we do. We have no control over anything else. I recently started drinking a power juice that has given me enormous energy. It is a powerful anti-oxidant. The active ingredient was tested at the University of Florida to show that it killed leukemia cells. I would like to send you this juice as a gift. Please let me know if you would like to try it.     I agree with Dylan. There are thousands of people diagnose with cancer every day. I am sorry it has happened to Patrick, but he is not the only one that has to go through the trauma of this disease

  31. My mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 5 months ago. It is one of the worst cancers one can get. We were told by the specialist there is only a 5% chance of survival. Our family is devastated and know what Patricks family is going through. It is a horrible disease and more needs to be done to find a cure. We pray for you and your family.

    What are you thinking? Yes you are right but he is one man that can make a difference and be heard do to his Star life.
    No offence but if I would go on TV and try to make awareness out there no one would pay attention. Trust me I have tried. My daughter died of a siezure in 2002 and because I wasn’t well known it didn’t make a change.
    Tho I believe people of all kinds should make a difference it is the ones who are famous and known for there greatness that cause us to tune in and hear what is being said and makes changes.

  40. Dave, I am not arguing that Nicotine is addictive or just how implausible it is to quit. My father managed to quit after nearly 50 years of smoking yet my mother cannot.

    My point was that you choose to do it in the first place. Legally speaking, as well as socially, the rest of it is part of the deal. Their shifty practices to keep them in business are regrettable, however they didnt make you start smoking with their addictive substances that you willingly purchased and consumed.

    Your issue seems to revolve around their practices to keep you a smoker. You can quit. People do it all the time. Its just very hard.

    That is not the point of this post however so it is the last I will speak on the topic.

    this is a response to Rodney: the internal documents show that the tobacco industry designs its products to render quitting technology less effective– that is a SICK thing to do– psychotic even– as far as choosing– it is clear that this is a psychiatric issue since we often say that we have chosen something (when the reality is that we are stuck with it) in order to protect our sense of self and freedom of one’s self to choose as you say–

    but when nicotine is in the equation– arguments of freedom of choice go out the window– the fact remains that many people try to quit and some dont even try because of the tremendous holding power this drug has over people– so they fool themselves into thinking it is their choice– when, in fact, they would love to be free of it–

    sorry rodney– but when you have a drug as addcitive as nicotine contained in a product as harmful as cigarettes and that drug gets manipulated in relation to the quitting technology that is out there, coupled with the fact that cigarettes are the only product not regulated by the FDA, all arguments of freedom of choice go out the window–

    This movie star might read this and say that i am A FOOL, but he is only saying it to protect his sense of self and the choices that he believes he has made– but there are complex Psychiatric issues in play here– it is not as easy as saying freedom of choice where the cigarette vicitm is concerned HOWEVER

    it is easy to use the doctrine of freedom of choice where the tobacco industry is concerned–becasue they have chosen to pay off the politicians to give them freedom from FDA regulation in order to be free to desgin their products with ultimate holding power– right up to the edge they use the “magic”amount of nicotine to keep their customers hooked without getting them sick to their stomachs from a too high concnetration of the drug, they made the choice and they had freeedom of choice to act in this manner to subvert quitting technology with the use of Ammonia chemistry and PH manipulation to quicken the rate at which nicotine is absorbed into the blood stream and passed the blood brain barrier thereby lessoning the time between the action (inhaling) and the reward (niotine hit) which is proven to clearly make the product more addictive and harder to quit– you can not build a ramp that is so steep that many people can’t climb it AND THEN BLAME THEM WHEN THEY ATTEMPT TO CLIMB THE RAMP AND FAIL– you will say that many have climbed the ramp and succeeded– well … there are a whole host of reasons why some can quit and others can’t– some are biological and subjective– the fact reamains that many try and fail because of the simple reason that this is a drug which is very addicitve and the point ends there– they made the choice to sell it the way it is, with a ramped up addictive quality, they made the choice to allay the risks of smoking with advertisements and press conferences whihc were designed to undermine the consumers choice making process and influence the smoker to stay on the same path wihtout trying thereby undermining the smoker’s will and judgement, they chose their own road and they have to suffer the consequences of THEIR choice–

    so you see, when it comes to freedom of choice, the isues are much more clearer when we turn to the defendant tobacco industry and the choice they made as opposed to the plaintiff victims of this unreasonably dangerous product.

    I agree that cigarette companies are evil, and I wish on the lives of multiple relatives and friends who are dead or suffering because if it. But you have the right to choose. It doesn’t matter what they put in them. They are clearly labelled to warn you and the information is freely available.

    60 cigarettes a day, 22,000 cigarettes a year.

    Like Yul Brennaer, he should do a public service announcement and say,”I’m dying because I smoked hundreds of thousands of cigarettes. This is a bad choice. Now I’m going to die because of my choice.I hope you learn from my mistake”

    My own father smoked as he was being treated for cancer up until they removed his voice box.

    This person and millions of others pay the ultimate price for this addiction. Now the American tobacco companies are snareing kids in 3rd world countries and funding it with 4 back a pack profits.
    This is crazy.

  48. I am sure you have had best medical care but my husband had his complete pancreas removed in may of 2005 at Toronto General by DR> Bryce Taylor and because it was in the nick of time is still dooing well I wish you all the best ann

If anyone could beat this disease, patrick is one who could do it as he’s very strong individual and has a caring and understanding head on his shoulders. something that you need to fight a debilitating disease as cancer. Your mental attitude is over half of the battle.

  52. I’m a health care student so let me tell you that pancreatic cancer is one of the more serious cancers out there. This is because of its fast spreading nature. Unfortunately, there isn’t a whole lot that can be done one detected.

  54. Pancreatic cancer is usually discovered too late to be able to fight it. A former co-worker of mine lived just a few months after being diagnosed. It is a terrible disease.

    My thoughts are with Patrick, his wife Lisa and their children at this difficult time.

    I am currently dealing with a sister going through a very rare cancer, so no matter how advance medicine is, it will still fall short at times.
