First Look At Disney/Pixar’s Animated Feature “Up”

We have obtained a first look at the upcoming Pixar/Disney 2-D animated film Up. We get the following pic and plot synopsis thanks to our friends at the movieweb:

Pixar

This coming-of-old-age story revolves around a seventy-something guy who lives in a house that “looks like your grandparents’ house smelled.” He befriends a clueless young Wilderness Ranger and gets into lots of altercations. Says Pixar: “Our hero travels the globe, fights beasts and villains and eats dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon.”

This picture, is a picture, of a picture that currently hanging in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. Thanks to the awesome power of the internet, we are able to have a look for ourselves. It isn’t much of a sneak peek, we see the backside of the film’s main character and some airplanes – but it is a start at least.

I am pumped that the Pixar/Disney team are dedicated to putting out 2-D films. I love 2-D animation and think it is hilarious that Pixar, (the 3-D lords) are the ones to champion Disney’s renewed cartoon focus. It will be interesting to see a septuagenarian hero in action, and with luck we will have more interesting pictures to show you shortly.

  1. all though this might be unlikely. . .
are we sure this isnt just concept art
all though im thrilled that PIXAR is doing a 2-D movie
it just seems odd that they would do one, being who they are and what they are known for
if it turns out to be 2-D, it will be nice to have decent disney 2-d animated flick that doesnt just go straight to dvd

ANyways, I trust PIXAR in whatever it turns out to be

  2. Now that is something that I call great and promising. But I so hope that they won’t blow it up like they did with Treasure Planet.

On the other hand the short description you posted at least hints that the movie might be going in the right direction. Perhaps even the best direction of a long time. Heck, this is the first big 2D animated movie in years that doesn’t revolve around teenagers, animals or other flat clichés we know too well – be it 2D or 3D.

So, for the moment, I am in.

  3. sweet…2D animation needs to come back. I’ve seen some cartoons on TV these days and damn they are horrible looking. Most use the exact same style that looks ugly and generic. Very blocky and no detail or anything. Cartoon Network has some cartoons that are unique and fun looking however. Either you see blocky crap drawing or anime-ripoff sorta crap.
