Grindhouse Releases 6 DVD Japanese Box Set

Grindhouse-CarIt looks like the Japanese will be the first to get the whole Grindhouse experience in a 6 DVD box set available March 21, 2008. We get this anticipated scoop and breakdown of the special features thanks to Pete at Slashfilm:

I found the six disc box set on Amazon.jp for 9.975 yen, which roughly translates into $65 American before shipping. No/All Region DVD player required. Box art isn’t available yet, the poster to the right was a Japanese one-sheet.

The Japanese get all the cool stuff first; and as always, the rest of us should be soon to follow. According to the article, Pete goes on to let us know that although the film itself will be in English, Japanese sub titles will be present. This should be a removable feature, but the menus themselves will be in Japanese and the discs will not be compatible with region 1 players.

Die Hard fans may want to snap this version up ASAP, but I would rather wait for a North American release so I don’t have to find a translator every time I choose to watch the film. It is cool that they are making a box set like this available. This is what most people were hoping for, and 6 discs should be more than enough to satisfy even the most dedicated and obsessive fans. We will keep you posted on North American releases as soon as we get word!

  1. I’m very excited about this!

disc 5 is the one for me

thing is i already bought the ‘uncut’ 2dvd editions of both films so i don’t really need all 6 dvds.. (ill prob just download dvd5 from the set)

I hope they release just the theatrical cut as a 2dvd set? that would be nice..

Or this set on bluray! that would make it worth buying the complete set again.

  2. Here’s the way I see it . . . the American movie going public (or lack of it) let GRINDHOUSE wither on the vine during it’s theatrical run

FanBoys have no one but themselves to blame for the state of the DVD releases.

  3. The Japanese get all the cool stuff first because media there is very expensive- so they will most likely pay $200 for this set. Since people in America bitch, you get less, later- and will most likely have to buy it again after a year or so “with new material they had lost but just found”.

  4. Seems hugely over the top for a film that flopped.

I’ve been waiting for the boxset myself but I certainly dont want a 6 disc megabucks edition.

I’d settle for a couple of disc with the fake ads, or a couple of HD ones.

  5. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for this in the west… I picked up Kill Bill pt. 1 from Japan for the extended and more violent cut, in the knowledge that eventually it’d be released in the US or here in the UK, and guess what? Still no sign of it, or the ‘whole’ cut, in cinemas or on DVD. Miramax et al. have no interest in providing what you want unless they can monetize it, and Grind House flopped.

  6. I think he means the menu options in Japanese, not the actual audio track. My only complaint is that I live in Japan and can tell you that right now, 9.975 yen does NOT translate into 65 bucks. It’s a lot closer to $90.00 right now due the weakness of the dollar. It’s worth a little more than the yen, but otherwise, expect for more than $65.00 to come out of your pocket before shipping.

    Ummmmmm…..

Doug, you are aware that in the DVD specs it says the movies will include the orginal english track, right?

  8. SWEEET!!!!! I hope we get this here….makes me glad i didnt buy the old dvds…..always wanted to get a set of this great flick…..one of the 10 people who saw this in theater and loved every second…..

now we just need the kill bill collection…..one can only hope
