Gerard Butler Denies Sabretooth Role In Wolverine

Word was spreading around the net that Gerard Butler would be Sabretooth in the upcoming Wolverine film. According to a recent interview, he has denied these claims. We get the story and investigation thanks to our friends at moviesonline:

Ok this is very confusing. The very good folks at CHUD reported that Gerard Butler would be starring in the upcoming Wolverine movie. We then had our very own Sheila Roberts ask Gerard Butler about it at a press conference and he completely denied the rumor ( Gerard not playing Sabretooth ). Now according to 20th Century Fox casting notes he is listed as starring along side Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber. How interesting. Looks like CHUD might have been right I am surprised Gerard denied it though. Lets see where this one goes.

Let’s see where this one goes indeed. I thought Butler would have been a good pick for Sabretooth, but it looks like we will have to wait for verification on who will play the beast-man. It is not uncommon for rumors to fly around the globe 3 times over before they are discounted nowadays, it’s just the way it is. When geeks like us get boners for news, we throw it out there before we have a chance to verify it from the source. This is poor journalism, but fast news and I personally have no problem with follow up retractions. I would rather have glorious fake news for a day; and enjoy our short time together.

With Butler still on the casting notes I am wondering; if he is playing another role in the film, or if he just hasn’t been totally locked into the deal as of yet. His denial may be a joke, legitimate or false. We will have to wait and see. I personally think he would be a great addition to the film, and hope we get to see him play a meaty role in this picture.

  1. @Ethan:

Liev Schreiber as Deadpool instead of Stryker? Hmmmm….it’s….possible. I would not rule that out. If this film sticks to what has been done thus far in the X-Men films, there will also be a lack of masks. Also, Schreiber did a good job as John Clark in Sum Of All Fears a number of years ago.

  2. Accorfing to the Fox casting notes…? Are they sure? Liev Schreiber hasn’t officially signed on yet as a younger Stryker (which, they could get an eager Brian Cox, who had since dopped wieght since X2,,,they don’t need Schreiber)

I think Butler is booked up at the moment; but if here were in Wolverine…I would think that he would be cast as Deadpool.

And Fox…producers of Wolverine….give an audition to actor Michael Shannon, who was recently in the the psych thriller “Bug” and the marine rescuerer in ‘World Trade Center”.
