Madsen Sheds Doubt On Sin City 2, Sheds Light On Inglorious Bastards

madsentat.jpeg I did not see this one coming from a mile away. It appears that Sin City 2 may not happen. We get the scoop from the moviehole:

Michael Madsen, who’d be reprising his role as ‘Bill’ in the sequel, says the fact that Robert Rodriguez’s last film “Grindhouse” bombed at the box office doesn’t fare well for the director’s computer-created “Sin City” follow-up.

“They haven’t shot it yet. I don’t know if they ever will. I am not sure [about] the franchise. I think the Grindhouse thing didn’t kind of work out”, Madsen tells Premiere.com. “The only reason I did it was because Robert Rodriguez said that if I took that little part I would get a bigger role in the sequel, that Bob would have more to do in the sequel. So I said: “Okay, fine.”

Madsen did confirm however that he’d indeed be starring in the long-gestating “Inglorious Bastards” – the next film from Quentin Tarantino.

Sin City has a number of stories that may be converted in like manner to the first. Since the first film did so well I thought it a shoe in for a sequel, but according to Madsen this is not necessarily the case. It would seem odd that Rodriguez gets breaks put on a Sin City sequel but Machete has been green lit? We will wait and see.

I am happy to learn that Inglorious Bastards is moving ahead. It is no secret that I disliked Death Proof, but I am still a Tarantino fan, I believe in him as an action Director and I am excited to see him take the reigns of a war epic.

  1. Hey I live close to Shreveport Louisiana and today I noticed a whole bunch of movie trailers and stuff down here. So I was asking around and everybody said they were shooting Sin City 2.. Not sure, could be rumors.

  2. INGLORIOUS BASTARDS is one of those “I’ll believe it when I see it” films (i.e. THE HOBBIT). Christ, it’s been talked about since…2000 I believe with vague remarks from QT and wild-casting rumors ranging from Stallone to Eddie Murphy(!)

Another thing is QT talks outta his ass…ALOT. He’ll chat up a storm about what his next film will be, months go by with no new information and it’s suddenly abandoned b/c he lost interest (i.e. THE VEGAS BROTHERS, his kung-fu epic, KILL BILL VOL. III, etc.)

Until we get an official press release announcing INGLORIOUS BASTARDS as QTs next film, I won’t believe it…

  3. I wouldn’t put too much weight on anything Madsen says. I see Madsen saying SC2 might not happen as the equivalent of Tom Arnold saying TRUE LIES 2 would happen. I doubt the Weinsteins would pull the plug on the SIN CITY franchise because of GRINDHOUSE. SIN CITY did like 75 mil.

  4. That is a damn shame. Sin City was one of the most unique movies ever made plus it kicked some major ass! I really hope Madsen is just expressing advanced doubt and not giving this information as definite.

As for Inglorious Bastards, as a Tarantino fan, I have been anticipating this film for a few years now (ever since it was announced of course) but it has taken FOREVER for Tarantino to even start to get it off the ground. But just think, how awesome would it be to have that Jules Winnfield’s Ezekiel 25:17 speech (from Pulp Fiction) spat at you during a full-on war shootout! Scarier than being shot!:P
