Fans of director Robert Eggers will not have to wait much longer for a first look at his latest project. Reports indicate that Focus Features plans to release the first trailer for Werwulf on June 29th. The date aligns with the full moon, a fitting choice for a film centered on werewolf folklore.
What to Expect from Werwulf
The upcoming horror film is set in 13th century England and follows a mysterious creature stalking a foggy countryside. Eggers, who co-wrote the script with Sjón, has described the project as the darkest material he has ever written. The film features a cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Ralph Ineson, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach.
The production was shot on 35mm film in a 1.37:1 aspect ratio, maintaining the distinct visual style Eggers is known for. While the trailer was previously screened for an audience at CinemaCon in April, this upcoming release is expected to be a version of that footage. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 25th.
A Highly Anticipated Horror Entry
This project marks another collaboration between the director and Focus Features. Given the filmmaker’s track record with atmospheric horror, anticipation remains high for how he will tackle this specific subgenre. The reveal of the trailer date follows a brief appearance of promotional material on the NBC Store website, which has since been removed.
