Disney’s upcoming live-action Moana adaptation is generating significant interest ahead of its theatrical release. Recent tracking reports indicate the film is projected to earn $85 million during its domestic opening weekend next month.
This projected figure places the film well ahead of the $56.5 million opening achieved by the 2016 animated original. While it trails the $139.7 million debut of Moana 2, the current tracking aligns closely with the performance of the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, which opened with $84.6 million earlier this year.
The strong tracking numbers suggest continued audience enthusiasm for the franchise. By comparison, the successful run of the How to Train Your Dragon adaptation, which ultimately grossed $636 million globally, provides a positive benchmark for how this live-action reimagining might perform throughout its theatrical window.
