VIZ Media Announces Major Anime Updates at Anime NYC 2026

VIZ Media made a significant impact at Anime NYC 2026, hosting a packed industry panel that delivered a series of major updates for fans of its most iconic franchises. The event served as a hub for new streaming announcements, special guest appearances, and a look at upcoming projects that span across the company’s diverse catalog of supernatural action and legendary manga series.

New Streaming and Dubbing Updates

One of the most anticipated reveals centered on the supernatural series MAO, created by the legendary Rumiko Takahashi. The English dub for the series is officially set to arrive on Hulu on August 24, with the first 13 episodes available at launch. Produced by SUNRISE Studio, the series follows a modern-day girl named Nanoka who finds herself transported to Japan’s Taisho era, where she encounters an enigmatic exorcist.

The panel also highlighted the ongoing success of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War. Voice actors Wendee Lee and Doug Erholtz appeared to celebrate the series, which is currently streaming on Hulu and Disney+. To further engage the fanbase, VIZ Media announced a new collaboration with Round1 Entertainment. Starting September 10, all Round1 USA locations will feature exclusive promotions, including limited-edition club cards, apparel, and specialty drinks themed around the hit anime.

Manga Rebrands and Cultural Exhibitions

In a major shift for long-time readers, VIZ Media confirmed that the iconic series Detective Conan will return to its original title in English-language markets. Starting in Spring 2027 with the release of the 3-in-1 Edition, the series will move away from the previously used title, Case Closed. This new edition will also feature updated character names to align with the original Japanese release, offering fans a more faithful experience of the long-running mystery manga.

Beyond publishing and streaming, VIZ Media is expanding its reach into the art world. The Art of Manga exhibition is making its East Coast debut at the Brooklyn Museum. As the first major exhibition in the Americas to explore manga as a distinct art form, it features over 600 original drawings. The collection includes rare artwork from beloved titles such as Inuyasha and ONE PIECE, providing a unique look at the artistic innovation behind the medium.

Why These Announcements Matter

These updates reflect a broader strategy by VIZ Media to bridge the gap between classic manga history and modern streaming accessibility. By rebranding long-running titles like Detective Conan and bringing high-profile exhibitions to major museums, the company is positioning its library as both a contemporary entertainment powerhouse and a significant cultural legacy. For fans, these announcements provide a clear roadmap for upcoming content and new ways to engage with their favorite series beyond the screen.
