Collectors and Star Wars fans have a rare opportunity to acquire some of the most iconic props in cinema history. The lightsaber used by Luke Skywalker in the 1980 sequel The Empire Strikes Back is officially heading to auction. The set also includes the character’s severed hand from the same film.
This marks the first time this specific lightsaber has been offered for public auction. Bidding for the two items begins at $1 million. The props are part of the upcoming Hollywood and Entertainment Signature Auction hosted by Heritage Auctions.
A Massive Collection of Movie Memorabilia
The auction features a wide array of items beyond the Star Wars universe. Film enthusiasts can also bid on props such as hoverboards from Back to the Future II, boxing boots worn by Sylvester Stallone in Rocky III, and various items from The Wizard of Oz and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The Rocky III boots carry a starting bid of $100,000.
Music history is also represented in the event. Handwritten lyrics for the Beatles song If I Fell, penned by John Lennon on the back of a Valentine card, are available with bidding starting at $500,000. These lyrics were written for the band’s debut appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.
Joe Maddalena, executive vice president at Heritage Auctions, noted that the event covers a vast spectrum of entertainment history. The auction is scheduled to run from July 13 through July 17, 2026.
