The global promotional tour for Disney’s upcoming live-action Moana is moving forward as the cast and filmmakers recently visited Australia and China. The live-action reimagining of the studio’s animated adventure is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 10, 2026.
Star Dwayne Johnson, who reprises his role as the demigod Maui and serves as a producer, joined breakout star Catherine Lagaʻaia and director Thomas Kail for a special presentation at the ICC Sydney in Australia on June 25. The event featured a musical performance by Opetaia Foaʻi and his band Te Vaka, highlighting the Pacific cultures that inspired the film. The group also participated in a photo call at the Bondi Icebergs pool.
Earlier in the week, Johnson visited Shanghai, China, for a themed photo call at The Bund and an exclusive fan event at the Shanghai Disney Resort. These international appearances follow the film’s initial launch in Hawaiʻi earlier this month.
Bringing Moana to Life
This new version of the story follows Moana as she voyages beyond her island to restore prosperity to her people. The production features a new song titled Along The Way, performed by Lagaʻaia, Johnson, and Auliʻi Cravalho. The film is directed by Kail, known for his work on Hamilton, and features music from the original creative team, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi, and Mark Mancina.
The continued global presence of the cast suggests a significant push from Disney as the release date approaches. Fans can find more information on the official movie website. You can also view the film’s IMDb page for additional production details.
