Apple TV has officially announced that its highly anticipated new comedy series Brothers will make its global debut on Wednesday, September 23. The eight-episode series features Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who both star in and executive produce the project.
The series launch will kick off with the first two episodes available on the premiere date. Following the debut, one new episode will be released every Wednesday through November 4, 2026. Produced by Paramount Television Studios, the show is helmed by showrunner and executive producer Lee Eisenberg.
A Fictionalized Friendship
In the series, McConaughey and Harrelson play fictionalized versions of themselves. The plot centers on their long-standing friendship, which faces unexpected chaos when they uncover a decades-old secret suggesting they might actually be brothers. The story begins when Harrelson’s character heads to Austin for an extended stay at McConaughey’s ranch following a family wedding mishap. The situation escalates when McConaughey’s mother, played by Holland Taylor, accidentally reveals the potential family secret.
While Harrelson’s character pursues the truth, McConaughey finds himself dealing with a separate identity crisis involving a potential run for Governor of Texas. The series promises a mix of heartfelt moments and comedy centered on themes of family, fame, and the blurred lines between reality and myth.
Production and Cast
The ensemble cast also includes Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, and Oona Yaffe. Trent O’Donnell serves as the director for multiple episodes, including the pilot. The project is executive produced by a team including Natalie Sandy, David West Read, Trish Hofmann, Bill Bost, Jason Winer, David Finkel, Brett Baer, and Jeremy Plager.
This collaboration marks a notable pairing for the streaming platform, bringing two major stars together in a format that leans into their real-world public personas. Fans of the duo will likely be interested to see how the series balances the comedic premise with the meta-commentary on their own celebrity status.
