What Could Have Been: Dutch, a Xenomorph and More in Predator Badlands

Director Dan Trachtenberg recently opened up about early ideas for Predator: Badlands. He said the original cut held several surprise moments that fans still talk about. Those moments would have linked the film directly to the wider Alien and Predator universes.

In the final edit the story stays tight around young Yautja Dek and the damaged Weyland Yutani synthetic Thia. The focus stays on their journey and on the new world they explore. However, the early version added a layer of fan service that never reached theaters.

Dutch and the Xenomorph

Trachtenberg explained that a holographic wall once showed Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Dutch from the first Predator film. Beside Dutch, a Xenomorph silhouette flickered in the background. He also mentioned a strange creature from the animated short Predator: Killer of Killers. All three figures would have appeared as quick visual Easter eggs.

He told ScreenRant that the longer scene had more holograms and a softer focus. The team later trimmed the sequence to keep the pacing fast and the story clear.

Why the Cut Happened

The director said the extra images made the scene feel crowded. He wanted viewers to stay with Dek and Thia, not get distracted by familiar faces. He also felt that the franchise needs time to build up its own mythos before throwing in big legacy characters.

Trachtenberg added that he still dreams about future cross‑franchise moments. He hinted at a possible scene where Naru from Prey meets Dek on a distant planet. He said he saved those ideas for later movies.

What This Means for Future Movies

Even though the Predator Badlands cameo moments were cut, the concepts remain alive. The animated film Predator: Killer of Killers already shows Dutch, Naru and Mike Harrigan in cryogenic stasis on Yautja Prime. That setup could become a key plot point in a future Alien vs Predator showdown.

Trachtenberg believes Paramount will give him room to explore these ideas. He said the studio offers a chance to create original stories that sit inside the larger sci‑fi world. He is excited to think about how to use the rich IP without giving away every surprise at once.

Fans can expect more hidden references and deeper lore as the franchise moves forward. Each new film may drop subtle hints that reward attentive viewers. The decision to trim the cameo scene shows a careful balance between fan service and storytelling.

Stay tuned for updates on how the Yautja and Weyland Yutani threads will weave together. Whether we see a full‑scale Alien vs Predator battle or a quieter character moment, the groundwork is already in place.
