Fans of the Alien franchise felt a wave of disappointment when a new update on the upcoming sequel surfaced. Visual effects artist Alec Gillis told reporters that he has not heard any official word about the next film. His comments arrived about two months after director Fede Álvarez announced he would step away from directing the project.
Alec Gillis Shares What He Knows
Alec Gillis, a veteran effects artist, made it clear that there is no official progress report on an Alien Romulus sequel. Some rumors suggested early development, but Gillis said no one has asked him to start work on design concepts. He told Collider while standing on the red carpet at the Predator Badlands event that he has not begun any work. “I have not personally started any designs,” he said. “Maybe other people are working, but they are not talking to me.”
Hopeful About Future Involvement
Gillis remains hopeful that he will join the project again. He added, “They will eventually need me and I hope so.” His recent credits include work on Predator Killer of Killers and Prey, which shows his strong ties to both the Alien and Predator universes.
Director Fede Álvarez Passes the Torch
While Gillis spoke about his role, director Fede Álvarez confirmed that the script for the sequel is finished. He co‑wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues. However, Álvarez announced that he will not direct the next film. Instead, he and franchise creator Ridley Scott will act as producers. In a September interview with TooFab, Álvarez said, “I am passing the torch on this one as director. I will produce it with Ridley Scott and we are looking for a new filmmaker to take over.”
No Official Production Timeline Yet
At this time, no studio has released a production schedule or a release date for Alien Romulus 2. Fans will need to stay tuned for further announcements. The lack of concrete details has left many wondering when the sequel will finally move from rumor to reality.
Despite the uncertainty, the core team remains committed to delivering a film that lives up to the legacy of the original series. As more information becomes available, the community will watch closely for any signs of progress.
