Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation have just announced a major development for their upcoming Ghostbusters animated movie. The studio confirmed that Sam Jarvis, the writer behind the hit series Dollface, will now serve as the Netflix Ghostbusters writer. This news arrives more than a year after the project was first revealed.
Who Is Behind the New Script?
Sam Jarvis brings a fresh comedic voice to the franchise. Before joining the Ghostbusters team, Jarvis wrote several episodes of Dollface and earned praise for her witty dialogue. Earlier drafts of the film were shaped by Yoni Brenner, known for Rio 2, and Christy Hall, creator of I Am Not Okay with This. Jarvis now takes the lead, promising a lively and original story.
Kris Pearn, a well known director of animated features, will direct the untitled film. Pearn previously collaborated with Netflix on The Willoughbys and earned acclaim for his work on the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs series and Shaun the Sheep Movie. Alongside him, Paul Kewley, who produced Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, joins as the film’s creative producer.
What About a Ghostbusters Series?
In addition to the movie, Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are developing a new Ghostbusters animated series. The series has been in the works since 2022 and is executive produced by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan through their Ghost Corps, Inc. banner. This will become the third animated Ghostbusters show after the classic Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters series.
How the Series May Connect to the Film
Gil Kenan hinted that the upcoming series could feature intersecting stories within the broader Ghostbusters universe. He explained that the team is actively mapping out connections that will thrill fans of both the movies and the shows. This approach could create a richer narrative world for viewers.
What Fans Can Expect Next
While plot details remain under wraps, the involvement of Sam Jarvis and Kris Pearn signals a blend of humor and adventure. The project is positioned as a fresh entry in Sony’s Ghostbusters universe, sitting alongside Jason Reitman’s recent live‑action films. Fans should watch for further announcements about release dates, character reveals, and promotional material.
Stay tuned as Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation continue to shape this exciting addition to the Ghostbusters legacy.
