First Look at Disney’s Ballad of Nessie

Disney refuses to let go of the classical hand drawn animation that made their empire, and its good to see this magic is still trailing off of Tinkerbell’s flight path.

We get our first look at their latest short film The Ballad of Nessie, which will play before Winnie the Pooh.

The Ballad of Nessie tells the origin story of the legendary Loch Ness monster, who turns out to be a rather sweet and gentle creature. When a land developer named MacFroogle makes plans to build a golf course over Nessie’s home, it’s up to Nessie and her best friend, a rubber duck named MacQuack, to stop him.

… and now the images from the film:

I love the style, like its been drawn on parchment paper. And it looks like the traditional storybook presentation that will be a nice paralell to the way Pooh stories are presented.

  1. awww!!!! this looks awesome! i can’t wait. So glad their not doing another princess story! Sweeeeeeeeeet.

I think Hollywood needs to get on the 3D wagon. Europe and Asia are kicking our asses in 2D. These bighead producers need to get it into their brains, 2D still sells, and probably will do amazing if they invest enough money and time into it.

I can use a break from all this 3D stuff. I love it and all, but I’ve alway loved the old ways.

    1. And its such a awesome connection for little kids, because kids can make flip books by hand drawing it. Its almost magical knowing people drew this 2D movie with their hands as you draw a little flip book as a child.

    2. I agree, all this 3D stuff is coming out of my ears!! I fear that producers are more concerned about money-making than really searching out for creativity and originality.
