Chu, director of the Step Up sequels, has been chosen by Paramount to direct the next installment of the G.I. Joe franchise.
Chu beat out F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen) and Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) to the director’s chair and he will helm G.I. Joe 2 this fall, from a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
But hold the phone. hat’s not all. It seems Paramount is responding to the negative response overall from the previous film, some of the first film’s cast may not be back. Some characters might even be recast. I don’t think Snake Eyes is one of them-Ray Park had the best dialog in the entire film.
“Wait a minute, Darren James Seeley!!! SNAKE EYES does not talk!!!”
Exact-a-mondo, int’l friends!
It seems to me that the obvious choice should have been F. Gary Gray. At least he’s done a couple decent action movie. I don’t know why they would choose John Chu, the director of the 2 ‘fantastic’ Step Up movies.
It’s unfortunate they miscast Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander IMO, because after his impressive turn in Inception, he’d be the kind of person you’d want associated with the film.
So to rectify the problems with the first film, we’re supposed to put our trust in the Step Up 3D guy? Ummmm, okay.
I’m with you Jason, why don’t we just dig up Sam Firstenberg, the director of Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo and American Ninja and give him gig. We’ll probably get the same result, a huge pile of crap. Who is writing the script? The script and casting had a lot to do with the bomb that was GI Joe. Keep Ray Park though, he was the only good thing about the first movie.
American Ninja! I must have seen that one 100 times back in the day.
:)
Hey!, at least it was better than this first film.
I say re-cast Cobra Commander! and give him the proper look and attire! (Damn it!)
